Anyone made a plunge into either format yet? I have an HD-DVD player, but it is the Xbox-360 add on drive. It looks pretty good, but I don't think it is as good as a stand alone player. Does the fact that studios are releasing only on one format factor into your decision making?

The last I read, the combo units don't do everything the standalone players do (online content, picture in picture, etc.) And I think they are still more than two individual players.

I have the 360 add on HDDVD Player and the picture is amazing. I am buying a Blu-Ray player this week too. I'm taking the plunge into both both HD formats.

i bought my Playstation 3 so it is a fully functioning Blu-Ray dvd player and both HD DVD and Blu Ray have great titles. Altho i must say i am hating on HD DVD right now as they just signed a major production company so their library of movies just tripled. However am Blu Ray thru and thru.........cant hate on the first ones to release the first porn movie in HI-DEF. thats right it was a Blu Ray Porno! :-)

I think it's a bit of a laugh with the HD on computers nowadays because why use 50GB when I can run a divx on a 15inch screen and get a good picture.

Now when I put it on a big screen with good definition the difference is there and the space is warranted. BLU ray will be around for a while atleast because the PS3 games are already formatted in Blu-ray.

I also saw spiderman trilogy on 1 blu-ray disc! That's using the space wisely I think and I congradulate them on making a compiliation and saving the owner space in his library.

I'm not hating on the HD-DVD at all it's just that the PS3 made it a no-brainer.

One thing you have to consider when buying a BluRay or HD-DVD is the tv set and sound system it attaches to.

If youre plugging a BluRay into a reg TV,or even a an older plasma or LCD w/o HDMI plug ins a full 1080p capability youre not getting the full effect.

I had a BluRay which i used on my 52" Sony 1080p tv and it was awesome...really fucking tight!

I don't know if I'll start a war or not.

But Blu-Ray is the way. The way it is being played out HD-DVD is essentially Betamax and Blu-Ray is VHS. Bottomline, Blockbuster has decided to only stock Blu-Ray discs (after: 1. payment by the manufacturer and 2. acknowledging most movies will only come blu-ray [because the studios invested in the technology].
