Get on a train to NYC? I believe AMTRAK stops in New Brunswick to and from Penn Station.

The best thing you can do is find your way to the shore or Hoboken. Other than that, abondon all hope. Better yet, if you don't mind crowds, you could take Oli's suggestion and head for NYC.
