Just came back from seeing it. Couldn't agree more. Smith's acting was great, as usual, but the storyline was weak as hell.

A much better treatment of the last man on earth is a 1959 film staring Harry Belafonte. sans a lot of special effects.

I haven't seen it, it will be on DvD in a few months. Several gun errors I've read: (1) too many shots from a 30-round magazine (2) shoots from the hip and the worst -- (3) the "click-click-click" sound after running-out of ammo on an M4

I, too, have liked just about every Will Smith movie I have ever seen. I don't know what JWBL's take on it is, but I felt Smith's acting was excellent considering the writing.

For my part, I wouldn't necessarily call it a bad movie; conversely, it wasn't really worth seeing in the movie theater either. In short, it's no Independence Day or Men in Black. Think more along the lines of Enemy of the State. At least that's my take on it.

I talked to two people today who saw it already, they both said it was pretty "blah". That sucks. I'm still going to go see it next weekend, but I'm not getting my hopes up at this point.

I read that Will Smith said they locked down many blocks of Manhattan while shooting, and he doesn't think something like that will happen again soon.

"I've never seen so many peoples middle finger in my life.", he said.

Pretty much there are movies you look at for critics review, such as "No Country for Old Men" "Juno" and "There will be blood" to name a few. And then there are films that u just go see regardless of what critics say, at least thats the way I look at it.

So this was the case with I am Legend, overall it was an entertaining that was marketed as a summers blockbuster flick, when its not really that, it kinda boils down to a character flick and seeing the progression and the end of that character, much like Cast Away.

JWBL,

Perhaps you were expecting an action film? Dunno man but I just saw it and I loved it!

Acting, story,FX,pace were all great. Will Smith and Samantha were outstanding....one of the best human/dog film relationships Ive ever seen.

The movie conveyed the myriad of emotions and psychosis' one would develop as the last human on earth quite well.

Viewed as a drama I think its a great film.

I am so dreading watching this, the book was amazing, even if it is 50 years old. It's timeless! Lol

Still, I loved the book, so I will give this a whirl. All I can say to those who have been disappointed with the film, read the book. It's relatively short, and so, so very good :)

This movie was good. As far as acting went. As far as a screenplay? It was a disgrace.

I still liked it a lot, though. When I say that the acting bailed out this movie, I'm not kidding. Will Smith is a great actor in his own right and he just further proves it with this movie.

And yeah, the whole thing with Sam was really, really sad.

sam is awesome.

i wished they showed more of will's characters life right after the incident. like how he did all that shit to his place. how people where killed by the virus and stuff. Also it would have been cool if they showed more of the environment and animals.

lastly i would have loved to see the kind of society the mutated humans had.

Agreed that Nicholson's "Joker" looked sillier... but only because of the clothing worn in that particular film. As far as being the "Joker" though, it's Nicholson by a landslide.

Plus, we haven't yet seen enough of Ledger's "Joker" to really come to any conclusions, though I'm not impressed by what I've seen to date. Time will tell... I'm willing to give him a fair chance. But I don't think anyone can out-crazy ol' Jack!

Oh yeah... "I Am Legend" blows! Gotta keep on topic...

Jack Nicholson was not the Joker. Don't know about Keith Ledger yet, but I have my doubts.

Here's the Joker/Batman situation (from The Killing Joke):

"See, there were these two guys in a lunatic asylum…and one night…one night they decide they don’t like living in an asylum any more. They decide they’re going to escape! So like they get up on to the roof, and there, just across the narrow gap, they see the rooftops of the town, stretching away in moon light…stretching away to freedom.

Now the first guy he jumps right across with no problem. But his friend, his friend daren’t make the leap. Y’see he’s afraid of falling… So then the first guy has an idea. He says 'Hey! I have my flash light with me. I will shine it across the gap between the buildings. You can walk across the beam and join me.' B-But the second guy just shakes his head. He says …he says 'What do you think I am, crazy? You would turn it off when I was half way across.'"

Mustard_Plug

I gotta agree, after watching the original Batman the other night, Nicholson's performance just doesn't holds up over time. Sure he plays it crazy, but the joker just came off silly and slapstick. From what Nolan and Ledger are doing, it looks like they are tapping into the more sadistic side of the Joker, and that is far better in my opinion.

I think it was better than Omega Man. I didn't see Last Man Standing nor did I read the book, so I can't compare. The CGI could have been better. Where did the Super Strength come from? Throwing Dr. Neville around the lab using only your mouth?!?! I would have like to have known more info on the three years that had elapsed. How did the Lions escape? Zombies were hungry and opened cages at zoos? Why didn't the lions starve before their release? Too many questions, but that is usually the reason after watching good thought provoking movies.

No one can out joker Jack Nicholson. He became the character and the character became him. I look at legers joker as being kind of pathetic just a psycho killer. Nicholson's joker (indeed all of his crazy man characters) had this unpredictability. He had this way of delivering the lines... he killed victims en mass and laughed his ass off while doing it. That to me is the most evil, sinister, kind of crazy imagineable.

A good, thought provoking movie does leave one with a ton of questions, but looking at the list of questions you asked, those aren't the type of questions I think a good movie leaves you with. Oh, they're questions I'm sure alot of people would love answers to, but they aren't really good questions, now are they?

These "monsters", who aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer, are able to set up a trap to catch Will Smith (the "heroic Sam scene", if you recall), but can't operate firearms, drive, or clothe themselves so that they aren't incinerated by sunlight? That was one of the questions I had, but still, I wouldn't call it a good question, and ultimately, I don't care as to the answer. The movie is great if you like long periods of nothing between scenes of action. As far as being a movie that I'd watch again though, it's not at all destined to be a classic by a long shot. IMO. Time will tell.

Baron Of Hell

I liked the movie but hated the crowd. Why someone would bring a fucking baby to this movie is beyond me. The kid probably go up to be be a whore or drug dealer with asshat parents like that.

But anyway the original ending for the movie had Smith's character opening the door for the monsters and giving back the girl after he came to conclusion that is what they wanted all along. The monsters then scream at him and leave him alone. You might have seen the screaming
scene in the original trailer for the movie. They obviously did some other changes to make the new ending work which I think was the cause of most of the problems with the movie.

I thought it was good movie but would have waited for the dvd if I knew how bad the crowd was going to be. There is only one scene in the movie that I thought makes for a good showing on the big screen. The rest of the movie is better watched only maybe with your dog by your side at home.

Oh yeah I think the other two movies were pretty good. I wouldn't compare them to each other. Each movie has a completely different feel to them.

The last thing i'll say is this is the first will smith movie where will smith wasn't playing will smith. His performance was great. They should have did more flashbacks and less cgi and let smith carry the entire movie.

I lied, one more thing. How the hell did that lady and kid drive there? The damn bridge was blown up. They made a big fucking point of cutting off the city but then some lady and kid come on it with no problems. I bet they weren't even in the movie until they decided to change it.

I thought it was a very entertaining movie. Serious suspense going on in certain scenes. Charleston Heston was good, but he was a tough guy throughout "Omega". Will's character did a great job showing the emotional impact by being alone for so long.

I think all the zombie movies made within the last 20 years were more corny and predictable than this one.

Yeah, because I'm sure they'd blow the bridges, but leave the tunnels open. Don't forget, if the tunnels were left open, they'd be crawling with monsters, and a Ford Escape driven by a woman with a pistol certainly wouldn't make it through. I won't even get into the ferry thing...

No, it's not that serious, but come on! You have to admit that's more interesting than how the lions got out of their cages. Well, actually, now that I think about it, maybe it isn't. Hmm. Okay, you're right. Not a good question after all.

my question is why didn't he have plenty of guns in every room of that house?
