"The Man Who Knew Too Little." The entire move was a double entendre.

"Groundhogs Day" rocked as well.

Caddyshack....gotta be my first pick
What about Bob.... very very close to #1

The thing about Murray's films is he is always surrounded by other great actors/actresses.....or maybe its him who makes the others look goos

He's been awesome in lots of stuff. Actually, I think Stripes is probably the most durable comedy.

Stripes, with Groundhog Day a close 2nd.

Dupree! I would like to take you out on some 'army training' (or just some drill training).

I have to say Stripes. I saw it recently and it cracked me up, still funny. I would guess I have seen it every few years, just long enough for me not to become jaded toward it.

Groundhog Day was good, the idea of being able to repeat time until you 'sorted' yourself was an appealing theme.

Love the bit where he encounters his old school mate, and variously tries to avoid him, punches him then gropes him, very funny.

Definitely Groundhog Day...fricking hilarious...the way he plays a complete sarcastic asshole in the movie is classic...no one could do it better...then how he reacts to all the shit happening over and over again...so f'in funny

Then What About Bob...saw it this weekend...he's a riot...

His characters are so over the top - that's what makes him memorable...

Stripes is consistantly listed in pols as one of the funniest movies ever and often in the top 100 movies made. Bill is at his best, althought the last half of themovies with the adventures in war is a bit boring. And "That's a Fact Jack!"

"So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I’m a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald… striking. So, I’m on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga… gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he’s gonna stiff me. And I say, “Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.” And he says, “Oh, uh, there won’t be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.” So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice."

Nothing new but here's my top 5 :

1) Caddyshack
2) Stripes
3) Ghostbusters
4) Groundhog Day
5) Kingpin

If he had a bigger part, Kingpin would challenge for the top spot though. Mahalo

Tough choice, but his humor in this was so subtle.

Next Caddyshack
King pin
Where the Buffalo Roam

and this webisode of his is pretty funny, recent too. He shows up two thirds of the way in.

the '84 Murray version? Because the '46 Tyrone Power version was really the one.

Just saw Meatballs again last night on cable. What a classic, especially for those of us who were lucky enough to go to a sleep away summer camp. It was essentially the story of my life, as both a camper and a counselor. It stands the test of time.
So, I would have to go:
Stripes
Meatballs
Groundhog Day
Scrooged
and, have we forgotten his great role in Tootsie?

I'm the only one here that loves Rushmore?! This board is full of savages.

chefmike
12-14-2007, 10:05 AM
I thought that Rushmore was pretty good, but not his best. Any Bill Murray flick is going to have some funny stuff in it, but that doesn't necessarily make it a good movie. I think that 'What About Bob?' had one of the best scripts that he's done, and that it was pretty damn funny, also.
