He was the man...balls of steel!
He got me into bikes back in the early 80's and I still race and ride today.

The guy was the real deal: a genuine badass. Radiohead did a song about him that somehow seems apropriate to his life. It's called "High & Dry."

"High & Dry"

Two jumps in a week
I bet you think that's pretty clever don't you boy?
Flying on your motorcycle,
Watching all the ground beneath you drop
You'd kill yourself for recognition,
Kill yourself to never ever stop
You broke another mirror,
You're turning into something you are not

Don't leave me high, don't leave me dry
Don't leave me high, don't leave me dry

Drying up in conversation,
You will be the one who cannot talk
All your insides fall to pieces,
You just sit there wishing you could still make love
They're the ones who'll hate you
When you think you've got the world all sussed out
They're the ones who'll spit at you,
You will be the one screaming out

Don't leave me high, don't leave me dry
Don't leave me high, don't leave me dry

It's the best thing that you ever had,
The best thing that you ever, ever had
It's the best thing that you ever had,
The best thing you ever had has gone away

went to see him back in the early 70s in atlanta, he was at a flat tracking race, and during one of the intermissions he jumped about 15 buses, landed safely and that's about it.....lots of beer after that.

A few more pics I just found of other jumps. I couldn't find one from the jump he did in London though.

I think that was either his last or 2nd last jump....he fucked it up though :o

He attempted 13 buses in London but took a bad spill. He was alright but went up to the mic and announced he was retiring. (Understandably) But within the same year he jumped 14 buses and was successful.

Yeah, that's right. I remember now.

He'd balls of steel.

Some people's legends grow larger than life, and EK was def one of those dudes.

Whether it was watching him jump buses or the Grand Canyon on WWofS on ABC or ripping around on my BMX bike in the dirt or jumping curbs,in every kids mind that I knew,we were all imagining ourselves to be Evel.

Dude was just a bad ass.

RIP

I hear ya, DJ.

All I wanted to be when I was kid was Evel Kneivel. Idolized the guy...whether I was watching him or trying to mimic him on my dirtbike.

There's one man I am sorry to see go. Rest in peace, Evel.

I never understood peoples interest in this guy. He dressed like a right wing Liberace, generally failed at his major stunts, and why would anyone want to do that stunt shit anyways?

"I'll jump over some buses in a stadium, people will love me!"

No offense intended in regards to his passing. In life, though, the guy was a clown. I mean that in the literal sense. He was bad circus.
