Best Sports Movies

Sorry yup another one of those threads,its true most of the premise of most sports movies is the underdog rising over a large obstacle but that doesn't take away anything from the movie in my opinion.

Let me start,

1.Rudy-This was your typical little guy going against the odds,there are a few moments that kind get you teary eyed in this one.

2.Love & Basketball-Great love story about two childhood freinds that share a love for each other and for basketball.

3.Rocky-The is probably one of the first great sports movies i have ever seen,its about a underdog who everyone counts out but he rises up and gives the champ a one for his money.

4.He Got Game-Story about a dad and son who must find something in common besides basketball.

5.Above The Rim-Basketball prospect has to make a decision between the playing rules but the streets or choosing to follow whats right to play basketball.

Rocky = that first one shouldn't be dimminished by its progressivly worse sequels

Slap Shot - gotta love that last game

Gridiron Gang - a different kind of underdog film

Cutting Edge - great ice skating romance film

The Games - great old film about 4 marathon runners.

Rollerball - a great sci-fi take on the future revolving around sport.

Major League, if only for the scene where Charlie Sheen comes out of the gates with "Wild Thing" playing over the P.A. and the stadium goes nuts.

Annapolis. They kinda snuck the sports aspect up on ya. First its about the Navy for like 20 minutes then BAM...boxing. Very good movie though. I'm surprised I liked it.

"Brian's Song" of course. One of the best of all time. Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo's friendship on and off the field was extraordinary.

Followed closely by "Fighting Back" a TV movie from 1980 detailing the struggle of Steelers fullback Rocky Bleier.
A quick synopsis:
Fullback Rocky Bleier (Robert Urich) makes it all the way to the pros with the Pittsburgh Steelers, only to be drafted in the Vietnam war. On August 20, 1969, Bleier is seriously wounded by a hand grenade. The doctors are certain that he'll never walk properly again, much less play football. But several grueling years of physical therapy yield positive results--Soon, he trains with his old team and the owner of The Steelers "The Chief" Art Rooney played by (Art Carney)'s sympathy and regard for Bleier pays off when Bleier improbably comes all the way back, ultimately playing for a Superbowl Championship with the Steelers.
The 1980 Pittsburgh Steelers costar with Robert Urich in this inspirational tale, which utilizes stock footage of the real Rocky Bleier in action.

Whether a Steelers fan or not it is a very inspirational story of the human ability to persevere against overwhelming odds.

1.Rudy-Really needs no explanation, one of the most touching sports movies of all time.

2.Rocky-The original was such a great movie, the others are just awesomely bad.

3.The Longest Yard-Burt Reynolds was excellent in this movie, had a great cast, one of my favorites ("I think I broke his fucking neck!!")

4.Baseketball-Flat out fucking hilarious! "I heard your sister slept with SQUEAK!" "Steeeevvvveee Perry!"

I don't think Ong-Bak counts as a sports movie lol but it was still pretty kick ass. The Protector too. Here's to seeing more Tony Jaa in the future. The video on youtube where he tries to rap is hilarious lol
