Great job. Looks like you are including the full spectrum of the life. I wish you the best. I do feel there may be some resistance from the part of our community which downplays sex. It's also an issue that many people from the greater community can't seem to get past, especially so called religious people.
I can't wait to see the whole thing. I'm sure you'll let us know about it's distribution. Blessings!

braveman, it's a 10-part documentary series. it will be on one of a few networks. we are in discussions now.
yodajazz, thank you! i hear you, but we are getting a positive reaction from that population. actually, from everyone. we knew we had something different, but we had no idea of the reaction we could get. it's amazing how beautiful and supportive everyone has been.
coroner...cgi, baby!
i just want to say that all of you, in one way or another, are a part of this series. and i totally mean that. definitely not just words. myself and my partners are doing this for everyone in the community. everyone. and we welcome the involvement of each and everyone of you. it's a huge undertaking and we feel blessed in many ways. thank you!! :)

Well to those who would say that- there are several girls in this project who are not in the sex industry.
They picked a pretty diverse group of girls to be a part of this- all with unique stories and situations.

I was very impressed by the trailer, it looks as if this documentary will
touch on issues that have been overlooked by many other
documentaries.
In terms of marketing it, I think HBO or IFC could give it the exposure
that it deserves, though they might try to downsize it for mass
consumption.
I lalso feel that it will do well on the Indy - Art House circuit, and feel that
it is the Paris Is Burning for the new millenium.
Kudos, and congrats to all involved.

The party for the opening night trailer was packed. Luck Chang's was full to standing room only, and even standing room was hard to find!!
Drinks were served and The food was tasty.
Then came the show! Allanah Starr and Dina Delicious gave a stand up show that put the audence in stiches. then came the trailer.
It was powerful, and amizing. I can't wait to see this ground breaking attempt to get into the heart and soul of these special women

@Allanah and whatsupwithat:
the reason this project is very important and my (limited, due to beein in a remote place at the moment) support for it is fueled by personal experience.
not only due to my own personal history of knowing TS face-2-face, but also from my involvment with the music-industry as a musician and (freelance) music journalist/promotor.
my musical tastes have always been rather "undergound" - never really mainstream/charts-oriented - and I had to deal with "mainstream"-journalists repeatedly. and no matter how much effort you put into the talks with those guys, the resulting articles/film clips about our venues/bands/parties were always sensationalist, highly fabricated, putting emphasis on things WE thought were unimportant. we nevertheless did those PR-activities bc it was good marketing.
the same I assume is true for that project. If it is beeing done by people from within the community, things will probably be shown in a way more authentic way, avoiding emphasis on the sensationolist aspects of that community (that surely exist) .

mbf, thank you for your kind words.
i so hear you on the way the media portrays things. we are talking with reporters now from some major ny outlets and i would be lying if i didn't say i'm nervous as all fuck about what they will print or show. at least with one of the major ny papers (one of the more sensationalist ones) i have a friend who works there in a position of authority, so i'm not that worried about that one. but the others...yeah. very much so.
btw, i worked at a major label for years, so i can very much relate to your experiences. it was not my favorite industry to be part of...by a long shot.

I'm sorry to be negative but I really don't like this trailer. I think the documentary is a great idea and it looks like you got an incredible amount of access but the trailer is needlessly chaotic. At times it almost feels like the trailer to a horror movies with the way it throws scattered, brief images at you. It jumps around in subject matter too in an uncoordinated way. Again, I'm not bashing the actually documentary but as a fundraising tool (I think I saw you say a couple pages up that it was being used as such) I don't think this works. As an avid documentary viewer I disagree.
It's fast paced, exciting, and in you face- like New York City and many of the girls here. I think the trailer is a reflection of the subject- the craziness- the high and lows- the chaos.
It's very entertaining and I clearly see a story line in the trailer-the sadness and happiness in all of our lives and that we are all in fact just human beings with a unique set of issues.
As a consumate detailed indivudual-if it did not make sense to me or if it was crappy I would have told Eric right away when I saw a preview weeks ago.

You're totally entitled to your opinion and I'm glad you're happy with it, especially since you're in it. However, as an editor and a documentarian, I have problems with it on a very specific level. As I said, I'm not attacking the actually documentary, or even the trailer, but if this is what's being used to sell the film or raise money to complete it I think it needs work. I think it's a great subject for a documentary, and would love to see it completed, and so felt I should speak up.

I work in midtown actually. I wanted to come down to the screening but couldn't get out early enough to make it. I think it's a great topic. A friend did a piece that touched on some similiar but in a very different way a couple of years ago and I always thought it would be a great subject to do properly.

I am glad you are pleased that I am pleased- as I was pleased already before you were pleased.
So let's both be pleased that we are pleased :)
And always even a proffesional opinion, as well as my opinion- is just that an opinion. Not a matter of fact.....

(As a point of reference I'm a video editor and documentarian)
I think the team did an excellent job.

I think this project is brilliant, anyone who attacks me in other threads, I'll fuck you up. Oh, I love Blondie, and we're all kinda crazy. That's the world we live in. There's more to it, but it's not my problem.

Not doing any bashing or whatever.
But I just tried watching the trailer oh High-Res and it was stopped part way through, only for my computer to inform me that it contained a virus.
Not sure if that was a problem from your website or on my side, I'm computer-illiterate.
However, from what I had seen of it, I was impressed beyond all comprehension. This type of project had to done, and I get the distinct impression that you and your team were the right people for the job.
Thank You.

Wow! I've been really getting into documentaries lately and this is one I gotta see. I can relate to the sexually confused guys they showed on there. I guess that's a part of a guy's evolution when first exposed to transsexual porn. It definitely shakes your belief system about sexuality and who you are as a man. But, I'm sure over time as you get into transsexuals more and more you learn to accept your sexuality not as either striaght, gay or bi but just a human loving other humans.

we will be focusing heavily on the guys in our series. and i want to give these particular guys a shout out for having the balls to appear and put themselves out there. so many of the men out there won't. these men did. and for that, they deserve a big hand and all our support. :)

:)Wait a minute. Let me understand something here. New Yorker works on and edits documentaries for a living. You watch them. Hmmm. Thats kinda like Brett Ratner having an opinion about a film he saw and some movie goer jumping down his throat for it. Why is it that civilians want to tell the professionals how things should be done? Whatever, at any rate, critical opinions are a part of the industry. And sometimes someone with a more well trained eye for the product may in fact have a point. And does Oprah have to like everyone? She's has a right to dislike things just like everyone else. I didn't hear her comments because I've not watched the trailer. Nor will I. No desire to. So I don't know what she said or the tone she used. But this is a reflection of a larger issue that I talked about before. Everything is fine and dandy in a trannies world as long as everyone praises them. The minute someone has something even remotely negative to say(constructive or not) one of you girls jumps down his throat. And Allanah, as much as you've done, putting yourself out there, promoting this and that, completley leaving yourself open for all kinds of criticism. I would like to think that New Yorker's comments would be just that. And he would be left alone by you. I would expect this from some other fragile egos on this board who haven't had nearly the exposure as yourself.

See, now I think I should throw in my $.02. Techincally, Allanahs view, and those of the people on this board would weigh A HELL OF A LOT MORE, like 5000x more than that of a documentarian because who do you think the target audience is with the Trailor [lets keep in mind, we can only judge the effectiveness of the trailor because thats what we saw]. Do you think that the TARGET audience, the people who will see the film [let it be in a local movie house or pressed on DVD] is going to have a client base of video editors and producers of documentaries, or Transexuals and their admirers? It is the goal of the producer to create something that shows his style and is also appealing for the target audience.
I am a photographer for a nightclub, and the owner hates my pics but the club gets tons of compliments for them. So he told me to change my style or lose my job. Now if the pictures are for the patron to view, and the patrons are viewing and enjoying them, what logic would their be in changing my style?
Plus one editor will always look at ways that someone could have done things different. I also do graphic design also, and look at a lot of work that just sucks IMHO, but everyone else says that its not bad. Thats why everyone has their own style of doing things. A Michael Bay and John Woo film are both action flicks, but nowhere near the same. Think about it, and tell me who is going about things the right and wrong way

I wouldn't normally respond to something like this, but i think it needs to be before the entire thread gets derailed into some crazy critique on crticism.
1) I'm all for New Yorker expressing his opinion and I clearly stated that. I think it adds to the dialogue....which the entire community should be a part of. He knows this very well and we are communicating through PMs.
2) To compare this situation to Brett Ratner having an opinion and moviegoer jumping down his throat is ingenious. You elevated New Yorker into some venerated film professional without knowing his credentials and made Allanah out to be unworthy of responding. Let me tell you this. Allanah is a very smart and profesionally savvy woman...and I value her opinion. I value the opinions of all involved. To make her opinion out to be less than is very false on your part...and really quite demeaning to her and to all who worked on and are working on this project.
3) I'm sorry you don't want to watch the trailer. Whatever your reasons, I thought I'd let you know that my mom always wanted me to eat spinach. I wouldn't because I hated it. One day I ate it. I loved it.
4) Much peace.
ps - Brett loves the trailer. Thanks. :)
