You have a nice voice, when I saw the link, no offence but I thought it would most likely just be OK, but it was better than just OK.

You definitely have a talent, go for it you're certainly not deluded, you can sing :)

Gia, I listened to you singing this song three times before replying. I don't know how you will take my critique, but it sounds like I'm listening to a professional artist on a CD. If that is really you singing, I think you have exceptional talent. I'm just skeptical that it's you. No offence, if you sing like that, what a compliment!

No. i'm not really going to audition for american idol because I dont think they will be happy to know about my past as a transsexual. But I will try my luck with the regular crowds and good bars where I can be personable to people. As I said earlier, I dont want to be popular, I just want to make a living out of my abilities! Thank you! :D

well im pretty confident you will make a living from it,good luck with it all.

You have a pretty good quality sounding voice. I can only hear about 16 seconds, so I could not tell about your range. But if you love it, then do it as much as you can. I play a number of jam sessions. That's a good way to sit in and meet muscians. I don't know which singers that you like , but it doesn't hurt to be versatile.

Hello

Your voice is good and enjoyable to listen to. Some people have said the song isnt as good as your voice. - This can be fixed. The song is good. It sounds like your backing was just guitar and drum machine. To boost the song, you need to add more variation of instruments at two or three parts of the song to emphasise the changes in the song. In some cases, use lower sounding instruments - the song and instruments are at the upper register.

With the right producer, I think you could have something really marketable. But it is very hard to get a contract. Get used to rejection.

By the way, you look great - can I be your sex slave?

Nice voice. It's a dull song. You have a few minor pitch issues but a lot of people do. You certainly have some potential vocally.

Someone mentioned Idol and you dismissed the idea because of your T status but I would reconsider if i was you. In Australia Drag Artist Courtney Act (http://www.courtneyact.com) was in the 1st series and managed a single and a career boost out of it. He/She is doing Rent in Perth this month. These shows love a bit of colour and potential contreversy and they would probably give you some screen time if you can replicate that voice live. If you wanted to pursue a career in music it would be a more likely career path than through normal channels as a record companywould baulk unless a T already had a profile.

I think you have a very nice voice but I would have to hear you sing more than one song to give a better opinion. Who are some of your musical influences? What type of singer (pop, r&b, rock, soul, country, etc.)are you? I wish you much success with your musical endeavor.

THANKS SO MUCH Night Rider. WEll I do love Christina Aguilera, she is one of my influences. I could sound like her sometimes but the high part , no! HAHAHHA! I love both artist! THanks Night Rider. I'll tell you when I come out as a singer. :D

Definatley let me know. Your style will take u far, because commercialized music is going out of style. Your in the same bracket as Lilly Allen, Amy Whinehouse, Christina Aguilera. I love it!!

If i was u i'd stay solo and stick to the style u have because it's really good. I'm fussy about music but that is quality.

Good luck Gia, it's a crazy business so make sure u have the right people around u, and keep ur feet on the ground.

I'm sure u'll do well!

Hey everyone,

Nobody knows this about me but i'm an aspiring artist. I remade this song from SWV's weak song. The vocals is all me. I recorded this track in a very raw material for 4 hours with a musician and a small recording studio. I just want to know if I have a future in this career. I don't want to be popular. I just want to singin nice clubs and like lounges. Very acoustic. Please be very honest and truth hurts sometimes. but I want to know. I have never been trained by a vocal teacher yet but i'm planning on it. Keep in mind that this is very raw recording. I'm a little out of pitch here and there but hey i'm just aspiring, right?! :D

Thanks GUYS!

Just go to that address!

Pretty damn good crack at a fairly demanding song there Gia. You do have the potential. Now comes the bloody hard work...

You probably know, but practise practise practise. EVERY day. And don't just sing along; memorise songs so you can sing them a cappella in tune and in time. Do scales and rhythym and breathing exercises too. Also stay fit-- singing can be quite physically demanding.

A good vocal coach can really sharpen up the details and make all the difference between a good singer and a great one. If you can't find one, "The Contemporary Singer" by Anne Peckham, published by Berklee Press, is a really great resource meantime (but you will still have to find a coach sooner or later.) Learn basic music reading skills--it's not difficult, it's a big help when you deal with musos, and it makes learning new material much quicker. (But don't obsess about it-- reading is a tool, nothing more. This is not conservatoire classic, it's jazz.)

Build repertoire-- you need 1/2 hour of music minimum, so well rehearsed you could sing it in your sleep..

Get gigs. Nothing, nothing helps more than live performance. Once you begin to feed off an audience, it's like flying. This brings its own issues-- sing with a band or use backing music? A band can a lot of hassle, believe me. If you have to be the musical director and the front, it can be too much. Note Shakira's close, long-standing working relationship with Tim Mitchell--he keeps the band in line so she can get on with the act. If you can find someone like that (who is not a manipulative user, plenty of those in music) great. Backing music, once you have it, will be hassle-free--but it's very lonely up there on your own even in a small venue. Bands may be a hassle but they do support the lead tremendously.

Have faith. You have a good voice. Dana International is trans too, and she's done pretty well on the mainstream stage. You just have to really really want it, and work to get it.

Wow! Thank you for your very good thoughts and encouragement. I need all the encouragement I need to get me off my ass. Literally! hahhahaha! I'm actually located in Massachusetts so I guess i'm pretty lucky because BERKLEE MUSIC is here which is one of the most popular and reputable MUSIC SCHOOL and they have very good vocal trainers and frshly graduated students that can help me. Anyway, breathing is one of my issues and how to elongate it is much even worse. I'm a smoker so I guess I might need to quit if I'm gonna pursue this. I know about Dana but I never heard any song from her before. Thank you for your knowledgable inputs about my singing thing and hopefully I can move forward from this. :D

You ARE lucky. Berklee is world-famous. That's where you should begin.

And um, how to say this without shouting....I can't. STOP SMOKING! Unless you want to sound like Eartha Kitt.

Here's a great exercise for breath control that will really help.

Light a candle and place it about 12 inches from your face, in a bottle or on a stick. Either sit or stand so the flame is level with your mouth, with back straight, shoulders back and neck relaxed. Breathing FROM THE DIAPHRAGM (push your tummy out) take a normal breath and then cause the candle flame to just gutter,(dance and flicker) in as steady as manner as you can. Don't blow it out.

Do this four or five times a day and you will rapidly improve breath control because you can actually see the variations in pressure.

Don't over-extend-- neither completely fill your lungs nor fully empty them-- as you do this and other exercises your capacity will expand naturally.

Good luck

I like that candle breathing exercise. I will do that. When I was really young, a person told me once to vocalize in the beach with the salt water. He said to put my neck just in level with the water and start vocalizing. And he said it would help me have a better quality and control of my own voice. Thanks for the big help. Just one last question, what does the candle have anything to do with my breathing exercise? do you think I could do the same exercise without it??? :?: Hope all is well with you!

Hi Gia

the point of the candle exercise is that you get direct visual feedback of the pressure you are blowing at, so I think you need the candle. You just try to make the candle flicker at exactly the same amount for the whole breath. The first time you try you'll see how it works, it sounds more complicated than it is. What it will probably reveal is that your breath is more erratic than it should be, but it will also help you develop control so that after a few weeks your breathing is much more regulated and controlled.

If you really can't get a candle I can see if I can devise a trick with something else, but the candle flame is incredibly sensitive to variations in your breath, so it's really the ideal.

Also, you need a voice coach so you can pick just the right song to wow them.

I woud love to hear you sing " Somewhere over the rainbow " or " Imagine " by John Lenon and also there is a song from Fame called " Out here, On my own "

Girl Power, you make me proud to be a trans woman sis. You must take this far and wide like Candis has taken her talent and make your mark so you can set a better future for Trans Girls.

I just got high speed and am now able to listen to the full song. I do really like your voice quality and think that you have a lot of talent. I did hear some minor picth flaws, but that will improve with experience, as long as you listen to, and feel your accompaniment. The part that really impressed me is when the song made the key change, you were right on it. You had to anticipate it because your vocal came in before the music. That means you have a great ear, so you can do a lot of things.

I still stick to what I said in that you do not display a high range, but alto is my favorite range to listen to anyway. So like anything else love is the key. Do it for love. I am not the greatest on the keys but my love has paid off. So maybe your moniker she be "Gia Loves Ron and Music."

Do you want my opinion? And this is the honest truth (am incapable of kissing ass).

It's okay. It's what I could call safe. You haven't done enough to make yourself different from the already over populated music industry. You sound like anyone would if they can hold a tune. Pitches? quite a few, and it sounded like you can't do high notes. You have a sort of strange mid-range voice: not too high and not too low, and its pretty calm whereas this song is requires over barring emotion: didn't feel that. You tried to handle the technicals and seemed to be overwhelmed by them. The emotion too was too... orchestrated and not felt.

Also one big problem with doing a song by someone else is that you will always be compared with the original- unless you do enough to change it up to the point where it sounds like a different song. Did you do that? Nope. Basically this sounds like the karaoke version of the original.

Getting a record deal can be tough nowadays even for singers with greats voices. I live in NYC and I have met so many young people that are aspiring singers, actors, actresses, and musicians that are trying to make it to the top. You are attractice which is always a big plus when trying to enter into the music business. Plus you have a geat singing voice. Can you rock a crowd? Meaning how are you on stage? Having stage presence and knowing how to work the crowd is very important. Knowing how to dance is also a plus as a singer especially if singing Pop and/or Dance music. Brittany Spears and Janet Jackson are ok singers but they are great entertainers. Keep on pushing forward and go after your dreams.

Thank you for being so honest about how I sing. And that's what I need to get further in what I want to do in life. I'm really not sure yet if I want this to be a career for me but at the same time I am planning on getting professional help so I could enhance and be better on how to control my voice that would include the right range for me, the right song for me, the right breathing, I completely agree with you about my "not there" feeling towards the song. I do sound "karaokish". But hopefully I would be able to find ways to use my voice properly and to get the best benefit of it through the songs I sing! Thank you and I appreciate your honesty! :D

your welcome. i'm seriously incapable of being biased or kissing ass. i could easily have just said "ohhh girl your amazing" but that doesn't really say much. what criterion are people basing awesomeness on?
