This is a great way for the writers to get noticed for their work,they deserved the extra money so why not give it to them.

Because the producers can't figure out a business model that will allow all of them to make the money they all want. And no one is willing ( at present) to shorten their take to give the writers a bump up.

Well, I know that execs/producers stockpiled shows in anticipation for this strike.

But they'll figure something out when the well gets dry.

Actually a lot of shows do not/did not "stockpile". I assume that they will find a way to end this strike pretty soon.
