is deeply kissing an escort a sure-fire way to get herpes?

belladonna said in an earlier post that 99.9% of the adult industry has it.
of course, transmission rates are supposed to be around 10% or so, without protection.

This pretty much says it all.

How do you get Herpes?
Herpes is spread by direct skin to skin contact. Unlike a flu virus that you can get through the air, herpes spreads by direct contact, that is, directly from the site of infection to the site of contact. For example, if you have a cold sore and kiss someone, you can transfer the virus to their mouth. Similarly, if you have active genital herpes and have vaginal or anal intercourse, you can give your partner genital herpes. Finally, if you have a cold sore and put your mouth on your partners genitals (oral sex), you can give your partner genital herpes.

HSV-1 and HSV-2 are actually two different diseases. They are similar, look similar... but at least half their DNA are unique from each other.

Someone also doesn't have to be having an outbreak in order to spread it to someone else. You could have sex with someone not having an outbreak at the time, and still get herpes.

Genital Herpes Transmission in Women

Women are approximately 4 times more likely to acquire a herpes
simplex type 2 infection than men. Susceptible women have a higher
likelihood of contracting genital herpes from an infected man than a
susceptible man becoming infected by a woman. In other words, if a non-
infected man and woman each have intercourse with an infected partner,
the woman is more likely than the man to contract a herpes simplex virus
infection.

Why Women are at Greater Risk with Genital Herpes

Women may be more susceptible to genital herpes infections because:

The genital area has a greater surface area of cells moist with body fluids
(mucosal cells) than men.

Hormone changes during a woman’s menstrual cycle may affect the
immune system, making it easier for the herpes simplex virus to cause
an infection.

First Genital Herpes Outbreak in Women

The first genital herpes outbreak is more painful and lasts longer than
recurrent genital herpes outbreaks in both men and women. However,
women tend to have more severe disease and higher rates of
complications during the first genital herpes outbreak. In women, herpes
lesions can occur anywhere in the genital area including the vulva, inside
the vagina, on the cervix, and urethra. Herpes lesions can also occur in
areas other than the genital area such as the buttocks and thighs.

These first lesions are infectious for an average of 3 weeks, longer than
in men and longer than recurrences in women, because the blisters
contain a large number of infectious viral particles.

Other Symptoms with the First Genital Herpes Outbreak

In addition to a rash in the genital area, women can also get swollen
lymph nodes in the groin and burning with urination. Complications of the
first outbreak in women include difficulty urinating in 10 percent to 15
percent of women and meningitis, an inflammation of the fluid
surrounding the brain in up to 1 out of 4 women.

peggy,

ive read a lot of your posts, and they have been very helpful. thanks for all the std awareness work you do around here.

Do you have any information about the transmission rates of herpes via kissing? I've had trouble finding figures on this.

I plan on visiting a newhalf bothel here in japan, and I assume most of these girls have HSV-2 in one place or another. If i follow through, of course I will use a condom, but of course i would like to do some kissing. If oral transmission rates are anything more than a couple percent, i think ill just stick to jerking off..sex w/o kissing is like sushi w/o wasabi

Got any advice?

That's because 99.9% of all adults have herpes... of some sort.
If you assume that all these girls you might get with are burning,
why are you so hell-bent on getting with them? Most people at least try to
delude themselves or HOPE a girl is safe, but you're convinced they're unsafe and going anyway--- that's pretty foolish.

Yeah - well of course being physical with people or even near them can present the risk of getting all sorts of infections. Best to seal yourself indoors and concentrate on looking at pics on-line (being careful not to ger RSI or damage your eyes).

I've always wondered if I was somehow immune to HSV-1 (mouth coldsores) as I've never had any. I even once had a girlfriend who had it on her lips and I kissed her anyway.

I'd like to know more about immunities and such.

Ya pays your $$$ Ya takes yur chances!
Always be safe until you AND your partner have had clean bill of health from doctor!
How many times has this been said?!
Sure you get a thrill from unsafe sex but the risk does not outweigh the rewards.
