This is going to be incomplete because it's been year since I study it but basically the steroetype of jews being money obsessed comes from either spain or france. Basically the major religion (christianity?) forbid the handling of money so the jews were forced by the government to be bankers and money lenders and then the same government used the fact that the jew held this positions to turn the population against the jews when the rulers decided they no longer wanted the jews in the country.
