View Full Version : mushroom picking
no, i am not talkin about penes that are shaped like mushrooms
but, this beeing the general discuccion, several members hobbies have been discussed.
so, - yeah i am odd - one of my fave hobbies is mushroom picking.
i wonder, if somebody else on this board is indulging in this rather odd activity

It is most definitely something I am interested in, and am trying to learn more about. The Pacific Northwest is a mycologists wet dream.

What, like magic mushrooms or food mushrooms?
I know my psychoactive plants quite well, but my knowledge of fungi is kind of lacking... where do you go to learn to identify them?

I love to collect mushrooms, even more than to eat them.
It's very relaxing, except when I don't find any mushroom and I begin to hit everything with my stick....lol
My favorite are:
Porcini (boletus edulis)

Galletti (cantarellus cibarius)

well kinda both, in some cases its hard to distinguish. best way to learn bout mushroom picking is going with someone who knows.
i used to go with my parents from an early age on. they didnt tell me bout the psychoactive ones but one just builds knowledge thru other methods like books (and some weirdo hippies)

There should be a thread about people's general hobbies here.
'Cause um... people without hobbies... other than "o i like to go to partys and drink lol" ...they kind of make me feel like I'm drowning in the stupidity of the universe.

A thread about weird hobbies. Very cool idea. I collect sand and soil samples from different places I have been. I've done it off and on since I was a kid and first moved out to Monterey, California. The last place I brought anything back from was some sand that I collected from the banks of the Thames during an exceptionally low tide.

Talk about synchronicity. I was thinking yesterday that we're about a month away from the fall mushroom season.
I'll be spending late September/all of October on the farm making sure the longhairs looking for liberty caps don't leave the gates open or get trampled by our cattle.
They're a harmless lot of human beings, but damned they're nuisance.

Last time I did acid I was in a farmhouse where I could hear cows mooing all night long.
I didn't eat meat for a year and a half after that.

You need to learn how to spell and properly capitalize certain letters.

In southern Thailand on the island I call home the hills are fertile growing grounds for "hed keequai" or literally translated "mushrooms that grow where the buffalo shit."
Last year my friend and I bought a trashcan bag full of them for about 20 usd!Unfortunately my buddy wanted to freeze them and by the time we got around to an afternoon of psychoactive festivities the keequai had lost most of its potency and really was rather disappointing.
Of course now said budy wants to ride our motorcycles into the hills pick the shrooms and eat em on the spot, and then navigate some of the most treacherous roads in the world....i passed on that one.

Finding acid in upstate NY is about as hard as a new HA member.

in the south we call it the land where cow or horse shit......my goodness the times spent picking and eating 'shroons.
actually got pretty bad around here, the kids were tearing down the fences, the animals were getting out and the farmers were pissed....

Back in the day I did just about every drug known to man. One of my
favorite class of drugs was the hallucinogens. I've done peyote, acid,
THC, and the psilocybin mushrooms, to name a few.
I ended up taking a 4 credit botany class, replete with a lab to increase
my knowledge of the mind altering substances found in nature, and to
grow better pot
10+ years clean and sober now btw. 8)

Haha. I'm hoping to go back to school for chemistry and pharmacology.
It's funny how many former stoners turn into scientists.
I've been clean for 2 years now. I ripped my consciousness a new one by using too many dissociatives. I went a little nutzo and it took me about a year and a half before I started feeling normal again.
Someday, I'd like to contribute to the synthesis of drugs that don't induce chemical autism or dependency.
You know, that whole "do good things for mankind" deal. :)

I've found making a tea with said "magical" mushrooms is my preferred way of taking them. It's a 4 second period of bad taste as opposed to the minute of chewing it and getting it stuck in your teeth. That reminds me, it's been almost a year since I've partaken. Might need to track some down.

Although eating half a dozen bananas before bed will give you really bizarre dreams.

Never been on shrooms...i read about it once and they seem really hard to find in the wild without eating a toadtool lol...
I did read how you can raise them yourself, but plants, even near plants like shrooms...hate me.

What a trip! I was just looking at a book on wild mushroom picking...then I was at O'Hare and they had a display on the subject, and now this!
I would really like to do something like this, particularly in the Pacific NW (where I am), and certainly with people who know what they are doing.
Cheers.

I've been on plenty of mind bending drugs myself, but i haven't tried peyote. What did u think of it? I was talking to a guy in Amsterdam that said he took it in a desert, and he thought he was in a tropical rain forest! Does it send ur head away?
Have u tried high strength salvia? It's legal in the UK but it sends u into a different dimension for 5-10mins....crazy stuff!!

How is this for a mushroom. :D
I haven't picked mushrooms since I was a kid living on our farm. Used to get paddocks literally covered in them, some as big as a frypan. It was kind of like that line out of 'Forrest Gump', "Fried mushroom, mushroom stew, grilled mushroom, garlic mushroom..." I think you get the idea.
