If you are sports fan and a baseball fan what are your thoughts on Bonds' breaking the Hank Aaron's home run record.

Someone made a nice point about Barry on local radio here yesterday. The caller rationalized that if Barry had stayed healthy, not abused steroids, and played even 90% of the games he missed b/c of injuries associated to roids he would be close to where he is now, naturally. I tend to believe that.

But, don't get me wrong, I still think he seems to be one of the biggest ego driven, maniacal petulant players I've ever seen. And, for me, that spoils the enjoyment of watching the achievement. I would have hoped Griffey would have been healthy enough to capture it.

I think Bonds and Mcgwire's records will always be in doubt. Along with Sosa and most of the other current home run hitters in pro baseball.

well, now that all sorts of things are coming to light. what woud you rather watch, Rod:

A. Sports with steroids

or

B. Sports plagued by illegal gambling

I guess I'll watch the one with Roids. Otherwise, it's just professional wrestling. And, yes, both options are not that fun. I know.

Also, I guess the only "natural" sports left are in college. That's sad.

I am curious to see it happen, but I'll still consider Aaron as the home run king. Not only is Bonds a cheater, he's also a complete ass.

The magic of records have been destroyed by cheaters. Records have been become insignificant. In the end, who have they made movies about. There will never be movies about Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire or Sammy Sosa, no matter what records they break.

The glory is reserved for the winners. Who won the rings, the championships, the trophys. Who lead those teams? Who was on those teams. These are the people of legend. Their individual achievements are a side note in the story. No fucking records in the stats but a record in achievement when the chips are on the line.

Dave Roberts (I love this guy and we cheer him wildly when he plays against us. Why? He's a legend, without him the Sox would still be looking for a World Series).

None of these guys are individual record holders but they and many others hold a place in the hearts of local fans forever, which is something Bonds will never experience.

Ya got to have grabbed the golden ring to truly earn a place in the heart of the fans.

Yeah Barry likes the juice...yup hes a total fucking asshole..yup hes about to break a hallowed mark,but you need to consider a few points...

Babe Ruth hit 714 HRs ALL against white players only...no blacks in MLB til 20 something years after ruth retires.Meaning he made his mark against only a half stacked deck.

Henry Aaron came along and broke Ruths record,of course it took Hank 4000 more at bats to break it,and never did Henry top the 50 HR mark once in his career....so yeah Hank is the king,after 33% more career ABs than Ruth.

Now comes Barry who is on juice,but ya know what....so was more than 70% of MLB for a good part of a decade...pitchers and hitters alike.He faced players of every race and color and put up numbers that made even Ruth tremble.

So basically take your pick...
1 guy did his work against mediocre talent
1 guy did his work,but titook him forever to do it
1 guy cheated when everyone else did too.

Say what you want about Barry...but he is a stud and IMO the most fearsome hitter in history.

HE CLEARLY DID NOT BREAK THE RECORD. HE WOULD HAVE NEVER DONE IT WITHOUT THE STEROIDS. HE DISGRACED HIMSELF AND IT IS AN INSULT TO MENTION HIM IN THE SAME BREATH AS HANK AARON. I AM A RED SOX FAN AND ALSO A GIANTS FAN. BUT I TURN MY BACK ON BONDS AND HIS BULLSHIT RECORD. I HOPE HE DOES JAIL TIME.
