I don't like to see anyone banned from participating in the free exchange of ideas... but, come on - his behavior was abusive, obsessive and downright WEIRD on occasion. Now, I will grant you that there are other folks on the forum who can be pretty obnoxious and I'm sure if they ever get to the point of consistently abusing folks right and left, they'll be banned too.

The point is, there is a large difference between disagreeing on a viewpoint and calling folks child-molesters, fags (in a pejorative sense) and idiots. Being a relative n00b to this board, I have no idea whether there have been previous posters who jacked the levels the way White_Male_Canada did, but I'm more than willing to bet there were.

I guess if you're the last bastion of conservative thinking on the board, then you can always try to educate folks with a well-reasoned argument. Nothing wrong with trying. Aside from the over and inaccurate use of the term Bolshevik, you seem pretty reasonable and not without a sense of humor, so I'm sure you can give a good accounting for your positions at the end of the day.

I’m just enamored with the notion that a forum member being banned for potentially libelous acts somehow violated that individual’s freedom of speech – particularly given that the First Amendment does not offer protection from the consequences of said acts. Hmm...yeah, I noticed that too...I'm not even sure he has been banned...I think it may well be that he has been suspended. Who knows...

Do I support the ban? Well, it's not for me to say. The mods and administrators get to decide, not me. I believe in freedom of speech but White_Male_Canada was an asshole and people have been banned for much less. If he was posting in the General forum he wouldn't have made it past 1000 posts.

Am I sorry to see him go? Not really, although sometimes I enjoyed responding to his inanities . I for one had come had finally realised not to take him seriously. So, frankly, I don't really care if he has been banned. But if he has, it's not the end of the world, nor is it a victory for the left or a form of suppression of free speech. It is just an example of an asshole finally getting his comeuppance.

Anyway, now perhaps we can get back to having proper discussions and maybe bring in a few more posters who had left this part of the forums, like Felicia and Ecstatic.
