Cumulatively there is money in porn, but not for someone doing a single shoot. And many people think they should get more than the reality is for a typical shoot. Everyone sees the big stars, but the reality is a few hundred, maybe a grand or two for a feature. If you shoot one a day you can do well, but it's more like shooting once a month. Or once period.

So my best advice to anyone wanting to get into porn is don't overprice / overvalue yourself.

Jessica and I love to shoot for others. And having been in the photo industry for years I know what shoots are worth and don't have ridiculous expectations. The way we look at it is what can possibly be better than getting paid to have sex with your lover?

We prefer to produce our own material, because then we own it, and I like royalties. The videos that do do well make more than the average paid for a porn shoot. And we get paid every month. Our productions are all shot on a royalty only basis. Nobody gets paid up front. We all share the risk if the vid tanks, and everyone benefits if it does well.

i didn't butt in because i figured wendy or vicky could provide more accurate info, but i recall a few years ago reading an aritcle in AVN with a producer for one of the first line vid companies and i was surprised at the numbers he tossed out. at the time one of the top tier GG starlets was under contract at $1000/flick, but of course she was making her real money featuring at dance clubs. as the producer explained, people have unrealistic ideas about how many copies of one flick may be sold...that is, not very many.....he said that a feature that turned $20,000 was a pretty big hit. he also said that the most expensive component of a release was the cover shot....odd, huh? when you factor in the cost of the stars, the crew, editing, titling, duping and distribution the take on a copy is pretty small, at least according to his account. but again, i'm sure wendy and sean could offer more useful info.
