I think at their peak the Teletubbies were only watched by a few target audiences. Mostly toddlers (and their disgruntled parents who were tired of watching these weird creatures bouncing around and eating 'tubby toast') and also stoned students who laughed along with the sun-baby while they sucked on a spliff.
I liked watching the Teletubbies when I was in the UK.
I think the experience would be even more unreal on acid, of course or peyote, mescaline or magic mushrooms, but I never tried any of these (magic mushrooms are actually available fresh at various places and are only illegal when either dried or cooked, so easier to get than acid, in case you want to try).
