Immigration bill goes down in defeat

The comprehensive immigration reform bill that has dodged attacks from the left and right for weeks, survived “poison pill” amendments, and was once pulled from the Senate schedule failed its most important test Thursday. Passage of the legislation now appears unlikely.


The bipartisan coalition that had shepherded the measure through so many obstacles failed to get the 60 votes necessary to end debate.

That was merely round one. They`ll keep trying.

What's weird is that I actually supported most aspects of this bill. But these guys need to go back to the books and come up with immigration reform that REQUIRES English proficiency. That requires a skill other than operating the old soap and sponge or leaf blower. That requires forfeiting other foreign citizenships etc.

That's a bill that would pass.

I believe that overwhelmingly, most people against this bill are good people and not racist at all. But there are some racist assholes out there in hiding.

Remember when all those Asians and Hindu's were coming over LEGALLY on H1B visas in the late 90's and going to work in the tech sector? Yep, skilled labor here legally and that still wasn't good enough for the racists in this town. Why? Because they're brown, probably.
