I don't know about you, but I don't find that flattering in the least bit! I am like yeah thanks for telling me I am damaged. Or yeah thanks for letting me know how much of a big loser I am that I don't have someone in my life. lol

And the other one is the guys that keep repeating god you're hot and can't talk about anything else besides that. That tells me they just want sex. And that is definitely not flattering and I ignore them.

Some people just don't know how to give compliments.


When I feel like writing a compliment to someone hot, I usually don't. I try to imagine what it's like from her side. If she looks like you, KellyShore, she probably gets 500 messages a day telling her how hot she is.

So what's the point of me sending her another one? It's just going to be one more message she has to open. If I could think up an original, creative, or poetic compliment then it might be worth it, but usually I can't. After the first several thousand messages saying "You're so gorgeous!" the effect of getting the compliment must wear off a bit.

Plus, there's my own side--she's not going to have time to respond to my compliment or if she does, it'll have to be a short response, because if she tried to write out a personal note of any size to all the emails she got every day, she wouldn't have time to have a life!

So, I'd be sending her a compliment she doesn't need and then getting ignored or a curt response--not doing either of us any good.

Naturally, this is all speculation on my part... Kelly, is this anything close to what it's like for you?

I've never thought "You clean up well" was particularly complimentary, as it implies that ordinarily you look like a bum. That's just my take, and I know a number of people who feel otherwise about that one. However, as I've said, I find that a backhanded compliment myself.
