I suspect they are people who want to see what is being said about them (i.e. transsexual porn stars), people who have gotten into heated arguments one time too many for their liking and now don't want anyone to know when they're on HA to avoid any more arguments, or people who don't want other members to think they're on HA all the time and don't have an actual life. I can't think of any other reason to be "hidden"...

a. run back to their forum and snitch
b. call up a TS and say "OOOOOOOOOH [insert name] said this about you
c. are scared someone from their offline life will recognize them via their username because they were too simple to create a different username than the one they use for main email, etc. on aol, yahoo, msn...............

nah you really don't do it, being logged off but accessing the forum anonymously for a brief period of time is not really being hidden

signing on, posting maybe once or twice a year with those posts most likely being negative is being hidden

Why? It's the first step in my now not so secret plan to take over the internet. Duh!!!!!

Honestly, it boils down to not getting telephone calls from someone who used to call whenever she would see my name listed below. Now that those calls no longer take place (for some time now actually), I suppose I could uncheck the hidden box, but I've grown used to it in the same way I have my unchaging avatar.

I call that just being invisible like on yahoo messenger. You can pretend you're NOT online and they wont be offended! LOL Then again, Im not online on YIM as much. Hehe..:lol:

Seriously, Just like YIM.. your inbox could get crazy at times. So being invisible helps ward off unecessary and unwanted PM's back and forth. ;)
