Governor Eliot Spitzer announced plans Sunday to expand the state's DNA registry. It would not include all persons convicted of any crime, whereas now only convicted felons are covered.

This would mean if one is convicted of anything other than a minor traffic offense or violation (such as disorderly conduct), would be required to have a DNA sample taken/submitted upon conviction. Just for the record pleading guilty to a crime is the same as being convicted.

Talk about Big Brother.

well if youre a law abiding citizen then you have nothing to worry about... only the guilty get nervous or have something to hide

thats bullshit Jen...your sadly misinformed if thats your real opinion. You seriously think its okay to collect DNA from people for something like a bogus misdemeanor charge????

Wow, i thought you were smarter. The same kind of people who are pushing this bill are the same ones who would like to eradicate the GLBT population from the planet.

If they get that bill passed its the beginning of the end.

lil harsh but w/e like i care.

if they want my blood on file so they can later use it to see if i commited a murder then go for it. im not about to kill someone so i have nothing to fear. this would help find guilty parties when heneous crimes ARE commited... like i said only those that are guilty, /capable of doing things where their blood would incriminate them, have the need to be scared.

It means if one pleads guilty to "get it over with", you will have to pony up that DNA sample.

Now if you don't care and or as you say a law biding citizen, then guess it won't bother you. My question would be what is NYS going to do with that DNA information, and who will it be shared with, if at all. For instance will the information go into a Federal database? This could be big for illegal aliens and others.

A government dept with that kind of information's a scary thought.

Today they're only interested in criminals, what about tomorrow?

You obviously do care, otherwise you wouldnt have responded.

This is just one more example of those sheep among us who dont have a care in the world about the implications of acts like these.

I have been arrested once in my life.

Any quess what the "Top Charge" was? Hint, I got to ride in the back of the same car as the masseuse I was going to see. Both of us had matching bracelets.

I plead guilty to the "Violation", which is not a crime, of Disorderly Conduct.

Hey I'm sorry I did not get my cheek swabbed. I would be a better person today.

If you think Rudy Giuliani is a Nazi you haven't watched the career of our new Governor Elliot Spitzer.

DOC still shows up on a court record search, and some applications want to know about "all crimes except minor traffic violations". Still you are lucky to get off with a DOC, know of only one girl who was taken in by NYC's finest that managed to plead guilty to that instead of a prossing charge. For some reason NYC judges will let people accused of all sorts of worse things either plead to a lower charge/violation, or dismiss the case after six months of good behaviour, if not drop the thing all together.
