Who's planning to see this film, which is released May 11 in the states?
The original wasn't bad at all. I'm always up to viewing a good zombie film.
28 Weeks Later
The creative team of Danny Boyle, Alex Garland, and Andrew Macdonald are back to re-invent the zombie movie yet again with the sequel to 28 Days Later.
Lead by director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, 28 Weeks Later picks up six months after the Rage virus has decimated the city of London.
The US Army has restored order and is repopulating the quarantined city, when a carrier of the Rage virus enters London and unknowingly re-ignites the spread of the deadly infection, wreaking havoc on the entire population.
Starring Robert Carlyle and Catherine McCormack.

Yes!!! I will see it. But not during the opening weekend. I rarely ever see a movie during its opening weekend. Too many people talking to others or to the picture. Expecially when its a good movie.

I liked the first one. Although the sequel has a new writer and director, I've read some early reviews and it looks like it is at least as good as the first one.

I was hoping to see the cast from the first film, but oh well  Hopefully, I won't be disappointed. I don't have any high expectations for the film, so it would have to be horrible for me to not enjoy it.

I actually incorporate the "too many people talking to the picture" factor into my decision making process when choosing a theatre. For example, if my friends want to go see a movie that I believe will most certainly suck, I usually make certain we all wind up at the Magic Johnson Theaters in Harlem. There, people talk to the picture constantly, and a lot of what is said is really damn funny. Conversely, if I think a movie will be really good – and I don't want any distractions – I'll usually go downtown where people keep quiet. To date, none of my friends seem to have discerned my diabolically evil scheme.

I actually scope out the obvious talkers before I find my seat in the theater. Spider-Man 3 was a pain to deal with though. Everyone wanted to bring young kids. The ones that shouldn't be there. I actually found a decent seat, and then this family I tried to avoid in the first place moved right behind me. Commentary from kids as well as adults is annoying. Venom was the monster. Atleast that's what the young girl behind me claimed. I ended up with a new seat before the end of the film.

LOL.... That whole scenario paints a funny picture. One of the best times I ever had seeing a movie was Cradle 2 the Grave, with DMX – who can't act to save his life. The movie was terrible, but the audience was so damn funny in the way they picked the move apart, I literally had tears streaming down my face from laughing so hard. Picking the right movie at the Magic Johnson is a total trip.
Sorry for the thread drift folks.

Not me. Didn't watch the first and the idea of sequals doesn't appeal to me so I'm skipping on this one.

We didn't find much common ground with the whole Grindhouse topic, and I was leery about seeing 28 Weeks. But... the reviews are creeping in and a surprising number of critics are saying it's better than the original. I thought the original was fine, if not especially memorable, so I'm hoping to catch it on the big screen.

I have to say that this film wasn't bad at all. I can barely remember the first film. I just knew that I enjoyed it. So, I didn't view this film as a sequel. You can certainly follow the storyline without seeing the first film. I would suggest that people check it out. I know everyone will not enjoy the film, but that's always the case.
I really want to break the film down, but I don't want reveal any spoilers. I will say that it wasn't predictable like I thought it would be.

I appreciate the consideration. That was the thing with the first film-- it was well done and all, but.... kinda forgettable. So I was stoked to see the great reviews for the follow-up.
And if you get a chance (just because I love talking movies and all), check out Red Road. That's my reccomendation of the week. Or probably month.
Later on, Kabu-chan.

Went last night to see it with Farrah, packed cinema, lots of gore, short of character development, fab landscape filming of London, most of the filming done in my part of London( Canary Wharf),so a bit unnerving to watch it all being fire bombed by the American Air force!
I'd give it 6 out of 10 for the zombie element and 10 out of 10 for the arial shoots of London.

I wouldn't compare it to Grindhouse. Grindhouse was more comical in both segments of the movie. As well as the intermission part of the film.
More people would probably appreciate this film over Grindhouse. It's not campy like Grindhouse. It seems like some people didn't enjoy the campy aspect of Grindhouse. If you liked the Evil Dead films, you should've enjoyed Grindhouse.

I plan to catch "28 Weeks" tomorrow... and "Grindhouse" when it comes out on DVD in the next two months, as it was out of theaters so fast, I didn't have a chance to catch it. I understand it'll be released on DVD as two separate movies...

That's good news in itself-- I like my horror horrifying, not campy (although I did enjoy the Evil Dead films). But we've been through all this before. At any rate, thanks for the tip. Did I mention that I caught Red Road this week? Intense, haunting. Don't miss it.

Did anyone catch "The Host"? Or has this film already been discussed too?
SkyTwo
05-12-2007, 10:06 AM
I think it's been discussed, but yeah, I've seen it. You can score a cheap DVD on eBay. It's excellent-- a little slow, and every bit as political as the original Godzilla (with a very populist message), but well worth watching. If nothing else, it's nice to see that someone can actually make a giant monster film in the 21st century and have it be literate, nail-biting, socially conscious, and so forth. Well worth watching. Even if only for the great blend of CGI and actors-- best I've seen in any Asian film, and right up there with the LOTR films.

I own Battle Royale, and I own the book that it's based off. The book is so much better than the film. You can find copies of the book at Barnes and Noble. Check it out.
They also made a manga series from the book, and there's a sequel to the movie.

The sequel is nowhere near as good as the original, just so you know if you plan to check it out. And as for the book... thanks. I'll have to pick it up.

I just came back from seeing the movie. It was OKAY, but not great. I hate it when they torture the audience with stupid characters. Supurb cinematography through out the entire movie, i'll give it that. Also, I like the song "In the house - In a heartbeat" but I felt it was a bit overused in this one. It blended perfectly in the first scene, but after that they should have moved on to another song.
