Massively slower is right, seanchai. In my experience with phpBB, such a performance hit is typically tied to a database problem, such as too many child processes running at once. Are you running MySQL? That's typical with php and phpBB. We ran into this often with phpBB, which was one of the many reasons we migrated to FUDforum, which is much faster, more stable, and feature-rich than phpBB. We had written scripts to check for memory status, connections, child processes, etc. which would restart MySQL automatically if the server bogged down too much. Also, I see you are running phpBB 2.0.1; phpBB has matured at least to 2.0.6 (the last update we ran just over a year ago, prior to migrating to FUD).

Of course, I don't know your environment, so these are only educated guesses, but I thought I'd mention them in case it's of any help. Good luck with the upgrade.
