So, who's going to see this double feature? Two films in one. They look so cheesy, and I have to see it. Bring a backpack with goodies kids. It's going to be a long show.

What is Grindhouse...for the few that don't know:

Directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez present two full-length movies in a new horror double feature.

In Tarantino's "Death Proof," Austin's hottest DJ, Jungle Julia, sets out into the night to unwind with her two friends Shanna an Arlene. Covertly tracking their moves is Stuntman Mike, a scarred rebel leering from behind the wheel of his muscle car, revving just feet away.

In Rodriguez's "Planet Terror," two doctors find their graveyard shift inundated with townspeople ravaged by sores. Among the wounded is Cherry, a dancer whose leg was ripped from her body. As the invalids quickly become enraged aggressors, Cherry and her ex-boyfriend Wray lead a team of accidental warriors into the night.

Although they can sometimes be so completely cheesey, I actually enjoy Tarantino's films. The key to being able to sit through them is KNOWING what you're spending your money on and not expecting to see something "amazing".

I like horror and sci-fi. I am sure I'll end up seeing it.

Just got back from the show. I kid you not, it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. While the second one is arguably the better of the two, the first is still commendable. Good, senseless violence mixed in with some comedy for some pure homegrown moviegoin'. Totally a guy movie, though...I wouldn't recommend bringing your girl along unless she's into that kind of thing. Some things might disturb you about the flick, though (think, balls being cut off then stomped on). Again though, that's only with the first flick. The second one hardly has any violence at all, and Kurt Russel plays a tremendously GREAT role.

And Tarantino acted in both the movies! His role in the first one was quite funny, if only for one part.

Totally. I had so much fun that I didn't even notice those three hours fly by. It's rare that I can say this, but I believe that my money was well-spent.

In short? If you haven't seen it already, SEE IT.

Grindhouse to be split up and re-released?

With the Easter weekend numbers coming in and Grindhouse only making $12 million at the box office, it's evident that there are some unhappy people.

Harvey Weinstein of the Weinstein Company which released the film is said to be already thinking of taking some drastic measures. That includes taking the old-style double feature and separating it into two independent films. Weinstein has suggested taking Death Proof and Planet Terror splitting them up, adding some deleted footage, and re-releasing them in the United States.

The film is said to top off at right around three hours and 15 minutes in length which could very well have contributed to the low numbers.

Weinstein already intends to split the two films up for the international release with Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof coming out first and then Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror to follow four to five months later.

"First of all, I'm incredibly disappointed. We tried to do something new and obviously we didn't do it that well," Weinstein said. "It's just a question of how is it going to hang in there. But we could split the movies in a couple of weeks. Make Tarantino's a full-length film, and Rodriguez's too. We'll be adding those 'two missing reels' that's talked about in the movie."

This split of the film is not yet concrete, but seems possible it could happen. Stay tuned to Popcorn Junkies for more on this as it develops.

I just heard about the news on the tele, and the reports are now on-line. I actually enjoyed the film. Tarantino's film was wordy in the beginning, but enjoyable. I think it should have been the first part of Grindhouse though. Rodriguez's film was more fast paced, and it seems like it could've been the perfect film ender.

I have to say that I have a crush on the latina twins. Feisty...lol...and I was loving the scene on the couch.

Both segments were better than I thought they would be. I wish more people would've checked it out. Oh well :roll:

By the way, the Thanksgiving trailer seemed like it could have been a real throwback film. More so than Tarantino's Deathproof. What do the kiddies think?

To be honest compadre if I were still in NY this would be one of those movies I'd be calling you to go see...

I dont know when we are getting it here in Thailand (bootleg DVD's dont count)but im really into the whole grindhouse/explotation films of the 60's and 70's...way too cool!

So, I take it that you didn't like Pulp Fiction. I like Tarantino. I'm not a fanatic fan, but I enjoy most of his films. The first Kill Bill was definitely entertaining. Tarantino films can get a little too wordy at times. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks that though.

I didn't enjoy Jackie Brown at all. I fell asleep....lol

Tarantino is inconsistent,and set the standard almost impossibly high with "Pulp Fiction" one of the most original movies of my generation.

Everything else he has put out IMO has been mediocre at best.Still im looking fwd to seeing Grindhouse if and when Thailand shows it.

Yes, I did hate Pulp Fiction, but it's mighty refreshing to hear some serious responses to my opinion, so thanks to you and DJA. I guess what it comes down to for me is the principle of the thing. If he was self-effacing about ripping off underappreciated B-movies, that would be fine. Instead, he's made it all about himself. Acts like a bigshot, has an entourage, and so forth. It's a pretty dishonest form of celebrity that he's incredibly ungrateful about.

I also have a nice story about a friend who always called me a hipster snob for disliking the guy. Until she ran into him in LAX. From that day on, she hated him ,too. And apologized.

Oh, and if anyone needs evidence of how bad these guys can be, watch Four Rooms, which is probably in a three-way tie with Howard the Duck and Tansylvania 6-5000 for the worst movie I've seen in theaters. It wasn't my idea to see any of them, and I'm still bitter about all three.

Thats one of the reasons I dont like meeting celebs whose work I admire,for fear that they turn out to be a raging asshole.

I was at dinner w/ my ex one night in LA and my fav baseball player Eric Davis was kickin it at the bar.My girl was like go talk to him,and i said nah...she s like..well you want me to go ask him for his autograph?...im like nope.

Had he been a dick to me or tried to hit on my wife then I wouldve never enjoyed his play on field again.

I've never been too impressed with Rodriguez. Desperado was good though, and I'm ashame to admit that I haven't seen El Mariachi yet. The success of Spy Kids is actually what makes him standout in Hollywood.

I still think From Dusk Till Dawn is his best work. You should definitely check out El Mariachi. It will help you to see Desperado from a different perspective.

Well, I'll add 'em to the list. I'd put them at the top of the Netflix queue, but the idea of watching Cretin Tarantino's smarmy acting makes my flesh crawl. But I'd like to enjoy some of his post-Mariachi work. BTW, didn't you mention earlier that you hadn't seen Mariachi? Swapping reactions would make for some interesting posts.

I watched it this weekend and thought it was great. It was a loooooong movie, but it kept me watching. The second feature got a little boring at times, but overall it was great.
