Maybe I should buy some old tab collars?

Now try a real classic:

Midnight creeps so slowly into hearts,
of men who need more than they get
daylight deals a bad hand,
to a woman who has laid too many bets

"real classic?"

My friend...this is a real classic:

Let the poets pipe of love
in their childish way
I know every type of love
better far than they
If you want the thrill of love
I've been through the mill of love
Old love......new love,
e-v-e-r-y love but true love.

When you try your best but you don't succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse.

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you loose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

"God is a concept by which we measure our pain" must be from God, by John Lennon. I don't know about the other line.

Here's another Lennon line for you to try:
"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans"

Plus a few more to chew on:
-"Suddenly I turned around and she was standin' there, with silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair".
-"I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes; I have to turn my head until my darkness goes"
- "Of course you can't become if you only say what you would have done"

There. Now I've given away my age. I also listen to more modern stuff. And the last song line is from 1999.

Is this "Laugh at the old guy" week?

Loki, I know you're not a young whippersnapper. You're a geriatric old fart like most of us. But I refrained from noticing. :)

Although you do look much younger than 30.

By the way, what exactly is a whippersnapper? Where does the word originate? How would one snap whippers? What is a whipper? And why would someone want to snap one?

Could an old guy admonish his kid by telling him "Shaddap before I snap yer whipper!"? Or could you say something like "Last night man it was awesome. I snapped my whipper all night!"?

Sorry, I'm in one of those moods.

"You're a slave to money then you die" is from Bittersweet Symphony by the Verve.

Okay, here's another two. No googling allowed. Can you spot the indirect connection between the two?

He looked to be 60 maybe I was 10;
Momma used to whup me, but I'd go see him again;
I'd clap my hands, stomp my feet tryin to keep in time;
Well he'd play me a song or two then take another drink of wine.

I'm your momma, i'm your daddy,
I'm that nigga in the alley,
I'm your doctor, when in need,

Around the South Side
So cold that we cried
Were we ever colder on that day
A million miles away

That would be Yes - South Side of the Sky from the album Fragile

Nice post, love that song.

Here's one from me (obviously not the entire song)....

"You say they taught you how to read and write
Yeah, they taught you how to count
I say they taught you how to buy and sell
Your own body by the pound
I think you like to be their simple toy
I think you love to play the clown
I think you are blind to the fact
That the hand you hold is the hand that holds you down"

Oh and concerning this comment...

but in this day and age all you have to do is google one line of a song and the title pops up... wheres the fun in that?
The fun is in keeping your self control and not using google.

'Pusherman' by Curtis Mayfield - I still listen to it every so often, LG. I have the original 'Superfly' and the later, 2- cd set.

Anyone recognize these lyrics from some over the hill rock pioneers?

Everybody wants to know where Jimmy has gone.
He left town I doubt he's coming back home.
Well Tony got a job, three kids and a lovely wife.
Working at the commerce bank for the rest of his life.

Feel the nails

Beautiful

Silken kiss
on a night like this

Our final hour

Closer still
close your eyes
see my world, it's animal
Insatiable

And make them rhyme

The meaning of life ends in prophecy
Premonitions speak tragedy
is there hope for humanity?

Mother earth's been withered by time
Already dead and we didn't even know it
Watch the stars to give us a sign
From above, all the angels descend
The meaning of life ends in agony
Raped by impurites
No chance for humanity

Magma splits the earth and shifts below

Molten lava bursts and overflows

Rise as we wait, annihilate
Burning earth pulls to the sun

Mega cities still blaze in the night
Burning the ashes they choke
From the earth the magma will rise
Enveloped in poisonus smoke
so the meaning of life ends in prophecy
Premonitions of tragedy

I can't correct you, as I'm not 100% sure of the words myself, and I'll be damned if I can even remember the name of the song, but I am 99 and 44 One Hundreths percent sure that those lyrics are the work of the unstoppable Joe Walsh.
