I went to the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale last month, here are the photos.

How many guys on this board collect cars?

Oddly enough, my primary use car is not an American car. Yep, I bought one from the krauts.... e550. But I do have an old 99 Silverado that I use tailgate hybrid drivers. :)

No company poured more money into engine development and design in the muscle car '60s than the boys from Dearborn. On the luxury front, who can deny those '60s Lincolns their rightful props for those suicide door models ..?

On the other hand, the GM guys of late have struck gold by mesmerizing viewers with the following commercial's tune. Cadillac and Iggy Pop. Who would have ever thunk it?

"I enjoy going to the marketplace, and seeing how much I can do without..."
It was either Socrates or Aristotle who said that over 2000 years ago. It still applies.

On the car front again, I think what is sad is that we the public can no longer order a vehicle a-la-carte as we could up until the mid 70s. Imagine ordering a Mustang/Camaro/Charger, etc, that was one out of three built, or even one out of 2100 due to the myriad of choices, and the personalizing of those choices by the customer. Imagine having five or six engine choices, different body styles(Today's Mustang only comes in a fastback model), rear ends, and a choice of colors and interiors exclusive of one another? Today the public is limited to packages, with very limited choices. Anyone seen a factory two-tone paint job of late? Those distinctive differences of yesterday will never be seen again on a factory level unfortunately. They are not about to stop the production line to personalize a car for you. :(

Nadia,

I want you on my side as we drive the 405 in a 1964 fire engine red Galaxie 500 convertible. That red and blonde hair were made for on another.

The Cadillac V series is plain kick ass. I came so close to taking the plunge, but the 73k haunted me in the middle of the night.

I just see a car as a domestic appliance, pretty much like a fridge. It serves its purpose, getting you from A to B... , but then again.... I'm a Socialist

That's cool. Just don't get in the way of my right to piss away big cash on the big V-8's.

Nah. I don't even separate my trash and put the recyclables in the blue canister and the trash in the black.

In fact, sometimes, if I have a lot of trash, I put trash in the blue canister!

Yes, I have a Porsche 924, aCitroen 2cv and a Citroen DS21 Pallas.

The Porsche and 2cv are running and registeres (but need some work), but the DS needs a whole restoration, but at least it's not rusty. No pictures yet in my Ds 21 pallas, but maybe soon. I actually got into Citroens back when they were relatively cheap, now they are big bucks, when restored.

I've dabbled in other cars and am actually quite mechanical myself. Scorpion, you have an SM? Wow. That's a bit beyond my technical expertese!

Oh yes and btw,

I don't live in Europe, so French cars are extra extra super rare in the States. I was unbelievably lucky to have found my 2cv in a backyard in Massachusetts. It's a 1986, which means it wasn't even legally sold in the US (They would bolt them to 1966 frames)

You CAN collect classic cars on a shoestring budget, if you know where to look, are patient, and don't mind owning cars that aren't show quality (or even running!). If you're in CA you're even luckier, since cars don't rust much out there.

I think all my Citroens are standards, and they do something wacky where the standard shift if on the column (takes some getting used to).

I don't care what people used to say about the DS being an "ugly car". Nowadays It's quite beautiful, and there have been far, far, far uglier cars built since.
