Patrick Boyle has a good go at the murky finances that undoubtedly formed the basis of Epstein's appeal to the people he drew into his society. He does not raise questions about the relationship Epstein had or might have had with Robert Maxwell, and there is as yet no evidence, only speculation that Epstein laundered some of the money Maxwell stole from the Mirror group's pension funds. Boyle does suggest that after a legitimate career with Bear Stearns (but with dodgy reasons for him leaving the firm), Epstein was involved in the less legitimate world of Ponzi schemes and 'money management' with no questions asked.
Ghislaine Maxwell was known to be dating Epstein before Bob's death, that he may even have been the person who introduced them. It is also the case that Trump met Bob in 1989 (Ghislaine would have been 26 yrs old at the time and was on board the yacht) and Bob lobbed 'business' ideas at Trump -what else did they talk about?
So many layers of information, so little meat to go with the onion.

Peel away one layer of the onion and another is in your hands. Jasmine Crockett at the end of the video linked below makes intriguing points about what happened on the Island, and presumably other Epstein properties: creating shell companies, creating modelling agencies to legitimize the immigration of foreign women into the USA. According to Wikipedia, Trump created Trump Model Management in 1999, and by its demise in 2017 had applied for 250 visas for 'fashion models'.
Epstein knew how to move money, no questions asked, and for a fee. Whatever was left in his account in the US Virgin Islands, it might be more interesting to see the historical records of the cash flow, but the Islands hosting secretive bank accounts rarely yield their details.

The Forbes article below does a good job of mapping the murky finances, which as ever begs the questions maybe only banks in the US and the Caribbean can answer. Note it lets Trump off the hook, whereas I would not be surprised if Epstein laundered or lent money to Trump while I am convinced it was his relationship with Epstein that led Trump to create a modelling agency, something he has yet to be asked about. If only people were not terrified of Trump, though these days he does not allow himself to be interviewed by anyone not signed up to the Club.
Either way it looks like Venezuela may become Trump's Iraq, with the intriguing prospect that regime change creates chaos in Venezuela, enabling drug cartels to extend their networks of power with no effective government to stop them. For all the criminal attacks on small boats in the Pacific and the Caribbean, Trump had a close relationship with a drug trafficker in the past, has pardoned drug trafficker Ross Ullbricht, and may be about to pardon another drug trafficker formerly President of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández.
