Labour's landslide victory should have brought it to the Annual Conference riding on a wave of near hysterical ecstasy. In fact, barely has the new Labour Govt had time to formulate the policies it is going to present to Parliament than the media has become obsessed with 'freebies' as a symbolic reckoning with the alleged fact that this year's winner's are no better than the last lot.
I did not vote Labour, but I hope they do have a realistic programme that not only offers change, but actually works. On some issues, such as foreign policy crises in the Middle East, Asia and the Horn of Africa, Labour is a waste of time, more or less irrelevant depending on how 'vital' British weapons and money are.
The media storm is overplayed. Watching GB News is to be confronted with a rage that seems more to come from defeat than anything Labour has not yet done. The howls of rage from the super-rich makes one wonder what they do to secure their wealth if they are so terrified of paying their share they would rather abandon the country.
Time will tell, but as far as image management goes, Labour has not got off to a smooth start.
