I think it was the BBC who reported on this event who interviewed a young woman who, having seen the eclipse decided there must be a 'higher power' or some such nonsense. I think they were in Texas.

Not sure what that higher power might be, motion and gravity perhaps?

If there is some kind of supreme intelligence (aka 'God') I'm pretty sure that none of these anthropomorphic concepts are applicable to it.

But we have no other way of expressing whatever it is. And if there is nothing, it does not invalidate the use of language to name it. That from the other side, God does not appear on the News at Ten is, I think, a telling absence.
