Last night BBC-2 aired a documentary on someone once known as Kanye West who now wants to be known as 'Ye'. The link is below.
The man concerned was some sort of 'rapper' and has made substantial wealth from his clothing brand, mostly trainers I think. I was vaguely aware of him knowing nothing about his so-called music, being of an age who thinks Rap is just someone shouting into a microphone while being a musical illiterate.
What the programme documents is how but not why he has become a Jew Hating Nazi. He can admire Hitler and has associated himself with other Jew Hating lovers of Hitler., eg Nick Fuentes But it's canned Nazis. I doubt whether Ye has ever explored what the origins and meaning were of the ideology that drove Hitler, and he doesn't seem bothered by what happened when it was put into practice. It might as well be canned soup.
If it were just a fetish then he could be ignored, but it speaks to a frightening admission into the discourse of American politics of Hitler and the Nazis, divorced from one reality -its own- and brought into contemporary politics where the agenda is no less scary.
I don't know what can be done with this disturbed individual, as usual one hopes that some exposure will diminish his appeal, just as Trump continues to appear deranged and unelectable. But too many young people don't know the real history of Europe in its dark times, and that is a tragedy.
