Makes one ponder if you have any experience with autistic individuals....

I have experience working with autistic children and adults in my 20s and a massive amount of experience working with trans persons. I can say in my experience (and I've always wanted to go back to college to look at doing a proper study of this) that there is a much higher amount of trans people who are somewhere on the autism spectrum, than non-trans people I know.

I've not yet read the article but I will.

This is also an interesting link based on a study of five datasets, but mostly adults. Note the rider comment made by Varun Warrier, a research associate in Cambridge (UK)-

"The researchers also explored the relationship between gender identity and six mental health conditions, including schizophrenia (https://www.spectrumnews.org/features/deep-dive/social-ties-autism-schizophrenia/), depression (https://www.spectrumnews.org/features/deep-dive/the-deep-emotional-ties-between-depression-and-autism/) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (https://www.spectrumnews.org/features/deep-dive/decoding-overlap-autism-adhd/). Many of these conditions co-occur with autism, and it has been unclear whether autism’s association with gender diversity is unique among these conditions"

I have a huge respect for that. Those who work with children on any level are good people for the most part, those who take advantage are the skum of the Earth .

I started at a summer camp update NY (Hunter Mountain) when I was 18 on an exchange program. Pretty awesome for a British person to get to do that - there was the advantage of 150 camp councillors, 90 female and 60 male. 10-15 of the guys were gay. So the odds were in the male councillors favor ... and then the British accent tipped it over the top :-)

Worked there every summer for 7 years. Learned more about myself and interaction with other people than any of my University years. Have more friends left from that time than Uni also. Changing an learnign disabled adults diaper at 3am, will give you a perspective on life. Then worked with autistic kids and adults in the UK - as well as doing care work for those in their final days of AIDS (mid 1990s, pre-Prep). It was all amazing experiences which have stayed with me for life, especially the empathy and compassion. Despite what some may think of my snappy retorts here - or think I've an 'atttitude', in real life it's very different as those who've met me usually discover.
