On this day, when we are asked to pause and reflect on those we have lost, one story from the BBC (I have not found a statement from the UK Government) and two items of news.

The first news is that the writer Jan Morris has died at the age of 93. The author of more than 30 books, who transitioned in the early 1970s, she must be the most successful transgendered woman in any field. Two obituaries have appeared in The Guardian, and are linked here-

The second items of news, are the statements issued today by President-Elect Biden, Vice-President Elect Harris, and Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi:
"Democratic leaders, including president-elect Biden, are marking Transgender Remembrance Day, after one of the deadliest years on record for members of the trans community.
“To transgender and gender-nonconforming people across America and around the world: from the moment I am sworn in as president of the United States, know that my administration will see you, listen to you, and fight for not only your safety but also the dignity and justice you have been denied,” Biden said in a statement.
At least 37 transgender people have been killed this year, according to Human Rights Watch.
