So yeah I’m an old geek, went to the RI comic con this past weekend and am going to the Anime NYC event coming up this month. That got me wondering what kind of geekdom is here at HA.

Geek seems to mean being a fan of pop culture. I guess you’re not one.

Q: What's the geek level on HA?

Ans: Its over 9000

The rule of thumb is that nerds and geeks seem to have inherited the world to some because much of that 80s and 90s nerd/geek culture has become quite mainstream. What most everyone does not realize is that for every "normal" person in the 90s that never heard of Wakanda that know thinks it is a real place in the middle of Botswana....for every one that thinks Harry Potter is either 7 pieces of adult literature (or 8 movies) there exists the super geek that knows what Dark Horse will release in 2022 and is blogging about it on a SM platform that you have not heard of, that can beat the Queen's Indian Defense in 5 moves, that still holds out up for a Seven of Nine Fleshlight to be released.

The geeks of the past evolved into these super geeks and the rest just co-opted former geek culture for their own.

Yeah, she was there, it was odd talked to her once but no one else approached her. I live in NJ but have been going to this con a number of years.

Geeks are no longer what they used to be. It like a badge of honor now and acceptance now.

i'm not talking about acceptance...but what was once geek culture is now mainstream and there are much more geeky things that geeks are into other than comics, trek and D&D.

I chatted briefly with Sara Karloff a couple of weeks ago. Does that count? :)

Probably not if it's only your first one. I think technology is more nerd than geek anyway.
