Hi Allanah, I suggest you stay in downtown Montreal, St Catherine Street Bet. Crescent St & University Place is the center of attractions. The underground city for shopping, and the financial district. Old Montreal is about 4 subway stops away. I go annually to the F1 Grand Prix in june. I stay at www.europahotelmtl.com should cost about 100 cda $ a night, negotiate your price. I am not sure if you would be allowed a lot of guests to the room.

Thanks all...I will be in Montreal Oct. 11-14 and I have booked in downtown that looks very nice and it is in Old Montreal, on St. Paul and looks pretty central. Thanks for all the comments. I do want to visit Toronto this year as well, but only have time for one city on this tour and figured I would check a city ou I have not visited.

Have you been to Montreal before? It's my favorite North American city. I've visited, oh, maybe 15 times or more over the years, including 3 or 4 times for the Jazz Festival (July: awesome, largest in the world). Anyway, folks have said right, Centreville is the place: wonderful restaurants, the mall, clubs. Cleopatra's (the transgender club) is a bit of a ways but not too far; you can walk it if you want.

If you have the time, you should visit the BioDome (which has 5 or 6 enclosed climates from around the world) and the Botanical Gardens (not too cold yet in mid-October; superb Chinese and Japanese gardens, First Nation garden, etc.). The Musee des Beaux Art is a fine small museum. If you like fine chocolates, Divine Choclatier is around the corner from the museum. And of course Mount Royal; best views I think are at night.

I can tell you this. As for hotels, the nicest would be the W, it has all accomodations and is located in the downtown area or the Ritz-Carlton
If you are looking for something less expensive and still in the main downtown disctrict, many hotels on Crescent street or Sherbrooke can be convenient or maybe even few nice ones near the Old Port like SpringHill Suites Old Montreal.
A really nice one is Marriott Chateau Champlain, decent pricing but very close to everything.
As for shopping, you need to stop at " Les cours Mont-Royal", it is a semi-underground mall with some amazing stores, full of highfashion and designer wear
For clubs, I have DJ'd at many clubs, the one you should check out are...if you want to just chill, 737 to lounge out. Their is also the Newtons which is very loungy. Club Vatican is nice, Stereo Nigh Club is another one.
As for restaurants, let me know what you like, we have all sorts over here, I can give you the headsup on teh better ones and teh ons to avoid.

I've been rather hectic so I I have not had time to respond to your email Globo- but I promise to send you those galleries ;).

As well, I want to thank everyone for their input and suggestions, I found a hotel that I like- we shall see when I get there. I did look @ the W, but I forgot why I did not book there. I'm not sure how much dining out (since I am on a strict diet) I will be doing , or going out at night, and shopping- well I rarely shop outside of NYC because I can find anything I can anywhere else here, unless in Paris because the French designer products are so much more inexpensive than the states- but my visit is planned for Oct. 11-13.

But I an definately thrilled to check the city out since I have heard nothing but good reviews.

Thank you again for everyone who added their input :)
