All I have to say is that I hope the parole board at least required him to admit that he didn't commit the murder because he was put on the spot or because the show deceived him but because of homophobia. I'm not saying that should be enough to secure his release but it must be a requirement, otherwise he hasn't shown any remorse at all.

To refresh my recollection on this case I googled it. It seems the defendant may have had a history of mental illness including depression and attempted suicides. So it's a little more complicated when it comes to the murder verdict. I would like to think that at least mandatory psychological counseling sessions are called for as part of his parole.
However, ignoring all that for a moment, I agree with you. Why? Because if the person on the show turned out to be a totally unattractive, much older woman, who was his neighbor...would he have killed her? I say no.
Homophobia still exists and will for a very long time. There will always be an enormous stigma to being gay as long as they are viewed as a lower rung on the social ladder...and they are. Even straight folks that state they are okay with it view it as an abnormality they don't want to be associated with.
Even in larger cities, you can be standing on a movie line and if a boyfriend and girlfriend briefly kiss..nothing, but if two men kiss, there will be a reaction by someone on that line.
We're just not really there yet.1024464
