Hans Rosling who has died at the age of 68 was a wonderful communicator who took a positive view of the way human societies have developed since the industrial revolution, and uses statistics to show how improvements in health, education and work-generated wealth have not only lifted billions out of poverty, but will over time stabilize the world's population, seeing related issues in health and climate change as ones humans can solve, at least at the technical level.
I attach two talks, but YouTube has plenty, and all are worth seeing when you feel depressed about the state of the world and need for a short while to be more optimistic.
