    Default Musicians you're attracted to...

I was doing some research for anthropology of music and came to the startling realisation that I have a very defined type.

That is a type of woman that sends me into a stupid lovesick daze whenever I see them.

They're all brunettes, kinda quirky, light-hearted Aussie musicians

What about everyone else? Post up pics or vids of musicians who set you off.

Joss Stone's voice could melt steel, and she is sexy as hell.

This is about artists whose look does the business? Or their voices?

Anyway, Shakira does both for me: one of the best pop songwriters ever, incredible singer and performer, and drop-dead gorgeous too.

...And I can't not have Daniela Mercury; this woman is just so much fun. And a great musician. And beautiful. And Brazilian.

    What more can I say?

In English-language pop music, there's not much to say; the industry is suffering from drastic contraction and a level of conservatism that I have not seen since the late seventies/early eighties.

There are a few great women (this thread is obviously about women, right, for men, anyway) in pop like Pink, and the tragic Amy Winehouse, who have already fostered a host of imitators, but what is surprising is that the blues continues to turn up great, great musicians. Many of the best to appear in the last decade have been women, and many have moved away from the sultry front-woman with a backing band format and become real driving forces.

Sue Foley: Great songwriter, singer, guitar-player and yes, gorgeous...being red-head doesn't hurt either. And she can get down and sweaty with the best.

Heather Nova produced four albums, Oyster, Siren, South and Storm, which really established her creds as a pop songwriter, a reputation she continues to build on. She is also a great live performer, has an amazing voice and, you guessed it, is devastatingly gorgeous.

Kate Bush-- Creative, sensitive, emotional--a great, original songwriter with a beautiful voice. Kate has been surprising me with her music for a long time. And you can't argue about how attractive she is.

Anneke van Giersbergen from The Gathering, a Dutch band.

Probably the most atmospheric and emotional voice I have ever come across in rock. Like a fresh and sensual winter breeze meets metal menacing, barbed wire fire. An example in sound here:

Hope Sandoval, lead singer for American band Mazzy star, and solo artist. Lingering, ethereal voice flying over cool psychedelia. A velvet underground feel for the 21st century. I could listen to her reading Kim Il Sung books and still find it sexy.
    Some sound here:
