Legally if you are self-employed, you need to make quarterly estimated tax payments. About the only way around it is to not be profitable or have some sort of withholding taxes which are in excess of what you will ultimately owe.

If you make a substantial amount of money and don't make quarterly payments, you'll get hit with penalties for not doing so.
