Clearly the best way to combat this is for sex workers to encourage civilians to kick their style up a notch.

It's pretty sad though that people in general are so slovenly that the first thing the cops think when someone is well-groomed and fancied up is that they're working.

Thanks for the link to a fascinating story, exposing yet again how far we have to go before 'normality' establishes itself as...er..well, normality!

I wonder what those cops would do if they hit the streets of many UK towns on a Saturday night!

what a surprise....another New York Times article demonizing NYPD.
Fact is, it's the local community itself that constantly petitions police to thwart street solicitation. When cops step up prostitution arrests in response, they draw criticism from gay/ transgender rights groups. It's a lose lose for LE.
for those of us who frequent the area for early morning tranny hunts it will only mean we're the next group to come under police scrutiny. it's probably a good idea to lay low for awhile.

There is a huge difference between going after prostitution and just harassing everyone who looks "too gay".

When I walk down the streets, I don't want to have to worry that I'm going to be set upon by police and frisked / arrested because I look a certain way and they ASSUME I'm prostituting.
