I'm interested by the level of aggression towards what was a badly put but still reasonable question...the only difficulty with it is the way it's phrased, especially the 'all' part. If the OP had said 'are some gay boy twinks really trans who have not yet transitioned?' then the answer would obviously be 'yes'.

How many times have those of us who actually know transwomen met a boy looking, let's say, 'a wee bit less than macho' and a couple of years later, woops, look what we have here, hormone therapy, a new set of jugs and hello darling. It's not even uncommon., in this little world at least. Think of all the threads full of 'before and after' pics....

The majority of transwomen, in the West, don't transition till they're adult (this isn't quite the same in other parts of the world), and that must beg the question, how did they see themselves or behave beforehand? Hate Blanchard if you will, but his observation that they fall into two categories, one of which began as highly feminised boys who were sexually attracted to men, is extremely hard to refute. (1. Blanchard's implication of causation is where he falls down, not in his descriptions. 2. He was not alone in these observations, but was the first to try to analyse the other subtype.)

I suspect the hostility here feeds back to the usual undercurrent of homophobia. Some men just don't want to think about the possiblity that the women thery are attracted to were once men, because then they think their attraction implies they're gay. It doesn't. It's who the woman is that counts, not how she got there.

By definition, excepting the physically intergendered, ALL transwomen were once physically male, and the inescapable logical progression from that must be that some males are as-yet untransitioned transsexuals. What is the big deal?

It is only by categorising and understanding taxonomies that knowledge progresses. It is necessary for the benefit of transwomen and the provision of proper health care etc, that the phenomenon be understood.

HA may not be the ideal forum for such debate, but nevertheless it has been, since 2004 at least (MacShreach was not my original posting name.)
