Have you heard? A California lawyer has submitted an initiative that would make it legal to kill gays and lesbians.
While I'm shocked that someone would have the audacity to propose such a disgusting and bigoted initiative, I'm not surprised. I run into fanaticism all the time, even while walking down the street in San Francisco.

Of course it would never become law, as it is clearly unconstitutional. Our Attorney General Kamala Harris has asked the court to give her the authorization to block this incredibly offensive initiative from moving forward. But if the Attorney General is unable to stop this proposal in its tracks, you may soon see signature-gatherers outside grocery stores and banks, just like you do for other initiatives.

And to those Californians who are not well versed in the complexities and protections of our Constitution, this would be spreading the message that it's possible to make such an initiative a law.

Isn't this what fanaticism is all about? Spreading fear and confusion?

A Christian activist in California has filed a proposed ballot measure to create a ‘Sodomite Suppression Act’ that would punish homosexuality with death.
The measure was filed with the California Attorney General’s office by a man identified as Matt McLaughlin.
It claims: “The abominable crime against nature known as buggery, called also sodomy, is a monstrous evil that Almighty God, giver of freedom and liberty, commands us to suppress on pain of our utter destruction even as he overthrew Sodom and Gomorrha.
“Seeing that it is better that offenders should die rather than that all of us should be killed by God’s just wrath against us for the folly of tolerating-wickedness in our midst, the People of California wisely command, in the fear of God, that any person who willingly touches another person of the same gender for purposes of sexual gratification be put to death by bullets to the head or by any other convenient method.
In a provision echoing Russia’s ‘gay propaganda’ law, it continues “No person shall distribute, perform, or transmit sodomistic propaganda directly or indirectly by any means to any person under the age of majority.
“Sodomistic propaganda is defined as anything aimed at creating an interest in or an acceptance of human sexual relations other than between a man and a woman. Every offender shall be fined $1 million per occurrence, and/or imprisoned up to 10 years, and/or expelled from the boundaries of the state of California for up to life.
“No person shall serve in any public office, nor serve in public employment, nor enjoy any public benefit, who is a sodomite or who espouses sodomistic propaganda or who belongs to any group that does.”
The provisions suggested in the initiative violates the US Constitution in a number of ways.
Even if the initiative was deemed constitutional, Mr McLaughlin would have to gather signatures from 5% of the voters in California – which is around 350,000 people.

A lawyer in California has submitted a ballot initiative with the state Department of Justice calling for the death of anyone who engages in sodomy in the state, the San Diego Gay & Lesbian News reports.

The proposal by Matt McLaughlin, who lists his address in Huntington Beach, was received by the initiative coordinator at the Office of the Attorney General on Feb. 26. Enclosed was a $200 check and the complete text of his "Sodomite Suppression Act." The act outlines seven measures relating to those who engage in same-sex sodomy,McLaughlin recommends punishment by death, even though a judge ruled that California's death penalty is unconstitutional last June:"


One would expect judges to be rational critical thinkers, since their job requires rational critical consideration of criminal cases.

It is shocking to see that the United States actually empowers such low life, irrational idiots as judges.

The United States should be ashamed of itself and those qualified as Lawyers, should have to go through better testing, to ensure they are at least capable of being rational, critical thinkers.

Rational thinking is something Matt McLauchlin has proven himself completely incapable of.

Such irrational scum-bags should not be allowed to represent anybody as such representation can automatically be labeled as Biased, and certainly should not be in a position to post such initiatives, nor should such idiots ever be taken seriously!


With such poor quality thinkers as Lawyers and potential to become judges, no wonder the U.S. legal system is so screwed up.

Maybe all lawyers and judges should have a rationality test every 3 or 5 years to keep their positions as judges

Irrational judgements as depicted in the proposed act by McLaughlin, damage the fabric of society and destroy people's faith in the judicial system and in the nation as a whole.

Perhaps they can do what's been done in other communities. That 5% or whatever number that do sign the petition become public record. A little bit of activism in a website that lets you put your zip code in and find all your neighbors that signed the petition or specific names will go a long way exposing who these people are and where they live. It would even be worth a sponsored page in the newspapers. I'm sure that will be sobering the next time an insane ballot petition comes around and these people have been exposed as officially endorsing a hate crime.
