McCain got censured. Not for breaking laws. The Keating 5 didn't break any laws. Not for breaking Senate rules either. Technically, they didn't break the rules. The meeting was ethically improper. The censure was basically for being stupid enough to get caught, & for giving the Senate a black eye in the press with the appearance of impropriety.
John McCain wangled the other Senators into it & arranged the meeting. He's the one who was flying around on Keating's private jet, hanging out on Keating's yacht, & getting all the other perks. He was the one who was kissing Keating's ass. He got in over his head because he just really isn't that smart, & has no real world experience at anything.

Well if it makes you feel better to make things up...be my guest. He was cleared. Even Bob Bennett special counsel for the Senate Ethics Committee's investigation of the Keating Five knew that John McCain was picked by the democratic leadership so the Keating 5 had at least one Republican. It was in the spirit of bi-partisanship.
