My advice to you is don't speak gringo, habla español.
If you have the money and you want to minimize the risk, have them come to were your staying, instead of going to those neighborhoods were they live, but if you do go there dress local, and try not to draw to much attention, you will be fine.

I often wonder, with the amount of homicide in Colombia, if they ever report anything on local news stations when it happens?
I know it's improved since the late 90's but it's still dangerous.
I once saw a youtube video of the old Locomotive works in Bello near Medellin, condemned at the time, one thing I noticed was a large man laid face down on the ground motionless! No one else around! I just thought....shit!

I'm still here and I'm still alive!

We will be in Cartagena the first week of August.

I will be sampling the local ladies, you can bet on it.

Nikki filmed her Video right outside the gates to the old town, you´ll find it. Don´t worry, Colombia isn´t anywhere near as dangerous as People make out.
Never had any Problems there myself. Cartagena is probably the safest of all Colombian cities and one of the most beautiful places on earth.
If I were you I´d consider a side trip to Medellin. Paradise for men. Flights on Viva Colombia are dirt cheap. Wish I was going with you, be down there in the Winter
myself. Have fun. (Guaranteed!!!!!!!).
