So your advice is that if I was in Brazil and had the opportunity to see Gabriella for $170 I should refuse just to establish a principle? How do you propose I obtain this local price, given I'm obviously not a local. Somehow I don't think calling her up and offering half the advertised price is likely to work.
It's called charging what the market will bear, which is what most businesses do. If she's charging more than others it's because she thinks she has special attributes that justify this. If she's wrong then she won't get much business and will have to drop the price.

Gringo prices exist because, well, Gringos don't mind getting fucked (no pun intended). The market you are referring to is you. And because there are many like you, I have seen prices change dramatically in Rio (and many cities in Colombia) compared to how it was years ago. Sure, she is in her full right to ask more money because she has big dick and played in porno movies (professional hookers often do a couple of scenes to be able to charge more for their core business) and sure as far as I'm concerned she can ask $500 per hour because she seems a nice girl and surely "deserves" it, and sure, you can pay whatever you want (it's your money in the end), but you're messing up the local prices for all whore mongers in the end by paying whatever they ask you or whatever you think she is worth it, because it's "pocket change" to you anyways, compared to where you live. It's not about the individual, it's about the general p4p market that guys like you and many other mess up in the long run.
Everybody has different principles. If your principle is to don't have principles when it cums to knowingly paying twice the amount for the sexual service of a hooker, solely because you have blond hair and blue eyes (or being an American), then feel free to pay whatever a girl charges you and never quibble no matter what. But in the end, it does not concern the individual.
On top of screwing-up the p4p market for gringos, you will always have people who don't mind getting fucked knowingly, and then you also have people who just as well pick another girl. More fish in the sea what I'm concerned. I rather have that than being laughed at for paying Gringo-tax.
But I guess we already know what you would do in the example I gave of the local brothel. Go into the room and pay double the money. I would rather choose a different girl/brothel.
Rio is a city full of termas and hookers. I rather have fun with a more honest girl in that respect.
