Even if I had a 4K TV I'm not sure I'd want all my porn to be 4K, for pretty much the same reason as was outlined in the HD vs SD thread. I don't need 5GB clips when sub 1GB will do the job ...

There are things that don't actually look better in high definition, IMO.

Watch any red carpet coverage tonight- HD destroys the smoothing/concealing effects of makeup, for example.

I am not sure if showing pornstars' nasal hairs, spots, and all sorts of imperfections etc is a good idea:

Watching commercials of McDonald's burgers as well as people wanking over airbrushed pics* reveals that the majority prefers seeing enhanced, and therefore unnaturally-looking things. I assume they wouldn't mind a movie whose every single frame has been airbrushed - as it would simply resemble their fantasy more.

Since the movies aren't edited to this extent in existing resolutions because it is unnecessary, why would anyone want pay for doing that having spent resources on implementing 4k in their studio already? Moreover, I remember reading a thread recently, about porn being less erotic than in the good old days as it lacks storylies, exotic sceneties, etc. Wouldn't it be better to invest in that rather than in the expensive and unnecessary technology, which will probably not be widely implemented in households untill it is cheap? How many porn fans actually have a cinema room at their homes?

Finaly, coming back to the hairs, do we really want to see them in more detail or, just want to splash out on editing movies shot in ultra high resolution and trying to promote it for its manufacturers? It is very trendy these days yet it doesn't really make sense without a sponsor, does it?

All in all 4k is a gadget that few can afford and I think this won't change at all because most people won't have a cinema of their own, and a cinema is the only place where use of such high resolutions would be justified.

* (most phones will take photos in 4k and higher yet this is totally useless as the pictures can't even be viewed their in full resolution on a full HD 55 inch tv set)

I remember the same discussions about HD. What we all forget is that Internet is getting faster and computer hard drives are getting larger.

Here are some points to consider

1. Having a solid 4k library will give an edge against other competitors. If the cost to shoot is reasonable. I would suggest starting now.

2. People complaing about size and the lack of interest. Till they experince it. When the ease of use increase they will want it. Look how much of any website albeit news or sports adopted HD.

3.The growth of the streaming market and the need for higher speeds lead to faster Internet speeds. Many companies are trying to offer greater speeds. So download size won't matter shortly.

4. The gaming market and electronic markets are accomdating this area leading to increase in hardware and software capable of 4k. This leads to a greater amount of potential users.

5. My last final point is the amazing selling methods that can be used to milk 4k into the ground. There is so much potential and the right strategy will have your coffers overflowing.


But if I am right you already knew this, lol. In my opinion, I don't think you have to test the waters much.

Eventually for sure. I don't care what people put in this poll. In like 3-5 years everyone will want porn in 4k or they will be the ones feeling very behind for not having a 4k screen. There are plenty of skin smoothing video fx if you can see too many body truths.

If I were a porn producer with lots of photographers working for me, I would see if it was possible for some of my photographers to rent 4k equipment, film as much as possible, then see how many members actually view the 4k option before buying a bunch of 4k cams & workstations to use for every single video. Adopting too early can mean you spend a bunch of money for no reason, and you are stuck with older, crappier equipment when the new generation of 4k cams come out later.
