That is about 1 in 450 people in the US. Assuming that nearly all are MTF It seems to me that there are a ton of FTM that miss the statistics, basically tom boys. If 1/2 the population is female that is 0.44%. If the 0.3% of the study that means 1 out of 300 women are transgender.

I think as a percentage Thailand and Brazil seem to be higher.

This is very hard to quantify, to say the least. There are no hard statistics, and every survey yields different results due to wide ranging differences in definition and methodology; however standard figures for the USA range between 1:250 and 1:3000 of the population. Thailand and the Philippines have very high percentages, running 1:206 for Thailand (+/- 330,000 out of a population of 68,000,000) and 1:270 for the Philippines (363,000 out of 98,000,000). But these countries have more established and relative "open" trans communities, as compared with many other, less accepting countries. I don't know the figures for Brazil, or other countries, but some researchers surmise that the tendency to transgenderism is universal, influenced by culture but innate in a significant portion of the general population.
