As far as the cops turning their backs on Deblasio goes, here's some recent history from the last several days.

Blas reached out to police union leaders, who have been extremely critical of him, and asked for a meeting on their territory (the new police academy building).

By all accounts the meeting was professional and civil, but basically nothing was solved...not surprising because no one realistically expected that anything more than some preliminary ice-breaking would happen.

Blas didn't speak with reporters after the meeting...the head of the Patrolman's Benevolent Association, the largest police union in the city, did, turning down his rhetoric by several notches but making a comment along the lines of "actions being more important than words."

A few days prior to this, an 18 year old man named Devon Coley was arrested for making the same kind of threats on Facebook as crazed cop killer Ismaaiyl Brinsley had. He was arrested and released without any bail by a judge named Laura Johnson, who didn't consider him to be a flight risk (and who must also think that threatening to kill cops isn't any big deal).

Now, what does this have to do with DeBlasio? Well, Blas reappointed Johnson on Wednesday, the day after he had met with police union officials!
