Breaking: Michigan House Passes Religious 'License To Discriminate' Bill

Michigan House Republicans just passed a religious "license to discriminate" bill, which would allow anyone to refuse service to anyone and claim their "religious beliefs" require them to discriminate. Such as allowing emergency responders, doctors, and other medical related professionals to refuse to treat or assist LGBT individuals.

I tell you one thing - if I lay bleeding on the roadside in Michigan and some EMT comes up and refuses to try to save me because Im trans - Im taking them with me whereever Im headed in the after life! GOP Cunts!

It is a private business' right to "discriminate" however they like. This includes refusing service to asshole homophobes.

However, it is not right to me that public organizations can do that. This is not ok. Especially emergency personnel.

Just so you know, not all Republicans are discriminatory. I am a Republican and fully support equal rights for all, especially the LGBT community. It hurts me to see fellow Republicans that are so awful. Our conservative roots should support equal rights for all, by keeping the government out of people's personal lives.

This will get struck down. The Supreme Court struck down a provision of the Colorado state constitution for doing something like this in Romer v. Evans, 517 U.S. 620 (1996). Even Justice Scalia, who dissented, said something like 'of course, if this allowed firefighters to refuse help to LGBT people, then it would clearly be unconstitutional'.

It's a tad trickier here because of the religious element (with which the state legislature was likely trying to build off of the Hobby Lobby decision), but if this law really does allow emergency respondents to refuse help to LGBT people, even the conservative Justices on the court will vote to strike it down.

Doesn't the same religion they're using as their reason to deny emergency services also tell them "not to judge" and to "love thy neighbour"? Wowzers. Truly incredible Cherry-Picking they've managed with this bill.
