not sure about essen, your best bet is to look at transgirls.de i suppose. essen is just one city in a metropolis of ten or twelve, duisburg, dortmund, bochum, gelsenkirchen, mülheim, oberhausen, wuppertal and düsseldorf all being within half an hour distance. düsseldorf being more upscale than the others, i would suppose this is where you'll find most girls. also, cologne is under an hour away, a lot of girls live there.

Essen is pretty nice, as is the entire Rhine-Ruhr area. I agree with other posters though- Cologne and Duesseldorf probably have more to offer in terms of things to do and ladies. Either way, it shouldn't be too hard to find a date anywhere in the region.
