RIP Charlie Haden

One amazing thing about Haden was that he was initially a country player, growing up in a country music family. Then he heard Charlie Parker when he was around 20, jumped to jazz but had that melodic bass styling underpinning his playing, which was just the balance Coleman Hawkins needed for his free jazz in the late '50s/'60s. Not to mention his work with Keith Jarrett and Paul Motian.
