Use of the Word Tranny
So there seems to be controversy of the use of the word Tranny lately. What is everyone's thoughts on this word? To me Tranny is just a sexual term and I mean no harmful intent when using it. It seems a little overblown but I'm also not a transsexual who has to deal with this issue. Is Tranny the new "Nigga"? Only select individuals can use this word freely?
If so what happens to the phrase 'Tranny Chaser"? Can Tranny's call Trannys but no one else?

Re: Use of the Word Tranny
In my personal life, I'd definitely like to not be called a tranny..and I certainly never call anyone else one ever. As for porn, I know it's a top search word, so I end up hashtagging my pictures with tranny, shemale, etc, so that I can be found by more people. It's a business, and I just remove my personal opinions from it's platform.

Re: Use of the Word Tranny
What would the proper term be then? Culture tends to create nicknames slang out of proper terms. Transsexual and Transgender naturally gets made into Tranny or Trans. Is Trans a better name?

Re: Use of the Word Tranny
I would say it was originally a pejorative term. The thing is that for example admirers may not realise that and may use it without intention of hurting anyone. Same goes to "shemale" and other words that originally had a different meaning. All in all, the meaning depends on the context. I'd say that the short forms are simply more general and only appropriate long as people know what others have in mind when they use them.

When I'm on live cam, you can call me just about any word in the book and i will agree with you 100%.
For me (tranny) is a umbrella term for; transsexual, transvestite, transgender, etc. and not at all offensive.
Best,

Re: Use of the Word Tranny
It's a pejorative term. Tgirl or TG conveys a better descriptive without emphasizing the male aspect in shemale. But tranny sounds like a putdown

Re: Use of the Word Tranny
I always understood the term to refer specifically to Transvestites and Crossdressers like myself. I can understand why Transgender women would be offended by being referred to that way, but honestly, I think most of the time it is used because people just aren't familiar with what is appropriate, rather than intentionally using it in a malicious way.
I kind of feel like if it is obvious that it is not being used in an insulting manner, either out of ignorance or otherwise, we should cut people a little slack. However, if it IS being used in a negative manner, then we need to speak up.

Re: Use of the Word Tranny
Having been in a ltr, my partner was mentally, socially sexually, even physically (bar the 1 obvious feature) a girl and that is how she thought of herself and I of her. T-girl or transgirl were the acceptable terms we used to express any form of distinction, but note the key term girl or woman was always in the mix.
